Player who most surpassed expectations

Gerry Gow was a great shout along with the other pair in the same job lot, Bobby McDonald and Tommy Hutchinson. Three journeymen footballers who galvanised a losing team and totally transformed our 1980-81 season.

More recently, two who I hated us to buy at the time but turned/turning out to be excellent that's Bellamy and Sterling

Big Willy Caballero. The backup who single-handedly dragged us kicking and screaming to a major trophy and then stepped up to save us from Bravo's disastrous downward spiral, becoming a cult hero in the process, and never once complained about lack of gametime, all while dealing with some pretty horrific personal issues. He had a very shakey start at City but by the end I felt completely comfortable with him in goal and always had absolute faith that he could produce a big save when we needed it. I'll definitely miss him and hope he does well at Chelsea.

Alan Harper
Kendall signed him from Everton, I never rated him and he was just a squad played for Everton,so when we signed him I wasn't too impressed.. Turned to be a really good player for city and very underestimated.

I expected Kompany to be as good as he is, same with Zaba. I honestly didn't think Tevez was all that before he signed but some of his performances were stupid good.

A few years ago I went to White Hart Lane with a Spurs friend. I think it was the first game of the season and City escaped with a draw. I'm pretty sure it was Silva's debut. There'd been quite a bit of hype about him so naturally I was looking out for him and watched him throughout the game. Lightweight, ineffective, rubbish.

Bellamy. 100 per cent chance he'd whine and complain when he was off the pitch. But when he hit it few could match his focus. He had some great games for City.

I remember thinking the same. It took him quite a while to settle into being hacked and unprotected by officials. Thankfully he found his feet. I suspect the same for Bernardo and hope the blue moaners give him time...
