Player who most surpassed expectations

Didn't we pay 4 mil and he just scored a stupidly good goal for Georgia Wales?
Lobbed the keeper from 30 yards out.
Pity his shot against Newcastle didn't fly into the top corner as it would've been the greatest Premierleague goal I've ever seen.
Shame he went to Ajax and it all turned to shit.

David Silva .... papers wrote him off after debut away at Spurs - pundits and press are generally KFA .... I think the commentator actually said he was subbed as clearly not up to PL standard .... turned out he was right as David is way way above PL standard

Sergio ..... debut game v Swansea came on as sub - 2 goals and 1 assist ... said to our son - WTF just happened

Toure. I thought we were buying a decent defensive midfielder but it turned out we got the best box-to-box midfielder in the world.

Uwe, signed initially on loan if memory serves.
Vinny. Bargain at £5 mil
Zaba ..another bargain and true hero
Big Andy Morrison...was he £85 grand?

Quinn surprised me.
Kendall had signed some poor forwards (Adrian Heath, Wayne Clark) and when Quinn signed I thought he was just a slow, useless big lump.

Saw his debut in a night game against Chelsea (who took the lead through Durie IIRC) and it was a textbook display of centre forward play capped with a fine headed goal from a White cross. It was a shame when Reid/Ellis turned us into a long ball team when Kendall left but that was not Niall's fault - he could play a bit and a player with his height/strength/control would be a good option for the current team against bus parkers.
