It’s hypocritical.
The EPL could come out and simply state that after years of kneeling to address the issue of racism IN THE GAME, they will now begin the process of penalizing fans and then clubs, for any racist chants or player comments.
A sliding scale of actions should begin, from stopping the game and an announcement, to removal of players until offenders removed, to awarding of game to opposition, to removal of away fan rights, to playing behind closed doors, to points deduction for repeated offence.
A little self-policing of fans goes a long way.
