Players who might improve us

only played under pep for about two weeks in a preseason, 6 years ago, not sure that'll count for much

Well Douglas Luiz said he trained under him for 2 months and Pep improved him by 70 percent.

If Pep liked him and Douglas Luiz described that time as working under the ‘best coach in the world’ you never know it might count for something.

These are the kind of the deals I can see us do in January. Ones that can be easily done. Only thing is we might want someone with the mentality to be high in confidence to make the mark right away.

Luiz could be a real asset though. Could be that 6/8 hybrid we’ve been crying out for.

I would be surprised if we’re not targeting someone and as you say in the January window we might be considering the less complex deals as it’s unlikely players, at the top, top level, will be open to a move during the season.

I'd have a look at Livramento from Newcastle.

A young right back, good on the ball, pretty quick, defensively looks good. Been impressed with him whenever I've seen him and always thought he would be excellent with the right coaching.

I'd imagine Newcastle wanna hang onto him but if he's pretty sure he's a replacement for Walker, knowing there's no real competition at right back here, he could force a move.

spot on, most def should be in our shortlist. RB should be one of the priorities in january.

Agreed, would be my dream RB signing. Will probably target a HG player or two with Walker (and potentially Stones?) leaving

Livramento is excellent go for him, Luiz on a loan is a no brainer. And at the back THB to replace Stones ( think he has had it with his Planter Fasciitis). These players will not cost us a fortune and will be good for the future?

Agree about Livramento as being a viable choice, but he won't come cheap. Newcastle's deal 18 months ago has the potential to rise to £40m. Unless they need to balance the books, they don't need to sell. You're therefore looking upwards of £50m before Newcastle even bother to answer the phone.

Hmm miles better than Walker and Lewis, is available and can actually cross the ball. Not saying he’s the solution but would surely help.
He gone well past his sell by date, much worse than Walker on Walker's worst day. Can't believe you think he's better than Rico. Slow as fuck these days but just because he's cheap means nothing. He would add nothing but take up a squad place. There are no positives to this transfer.

You want a 34 year old English RB (who was always 2nd to Walker), who has effectively been frozen out at Newcastle, a team who're having a hit and miss season.... to replace a 34 year old English RB (who was always #1), who has effectively been frozen out at us, a team who're having a hit and miss season?

Best case he does a decent job, which I doubt as he's not got it to play for us, and then we are stuck with him next year (or 2) while he runs out his contract

I’d bring Callum Doyle back personally. Looks good enough. He is a left-sided defender however.

They'd have to at least answer the phone to know how much they were being offered? 8-)
