what players have you met and what did you think of them?

I met Neds awhile ago and was lucky enough to have a game of pool with him. He is a friend of my brothers as they went to college together.
He was a really nice guy, I tried my best not to talk city with him as I just wanted to seem normal and not an obsessed fan it was difficult though.

I also met Nicky Weaver in Wetherspoons in Urmston, I sat in a booth eating my chips and he and another guy sat down and weaver nicked a chip off my plate then when on to talk to me about how much he likes chips. Nice guy but could tell he liked the booze.

I met Adam Johnson on Paddy's day and he bought me two pints of guiness for looking after his mate in the queue. Seemed a nice lad though couldn't understand half of what he was saying thanks to the North East accent.

He did say to a rag fan that was next to (when asked why he didn't sign for united) that "he wanted to pay in Manchester" which i thought was rather good.

Keith Curle Fitzroy Simpson on the pitch at Maine Road v Forest early 90's the platt Lane was being built, i had a few and the players were warming up about 2 o clock. I was in the Main stand and jumped over the wall, I've got the photos the Mrs took them but don't know how to put them on here, the same match I grabbed a photo with Mark Crossely Forest keeper, didn't realise what a big lad he is till the photos came back god knows what I said to him. Also met all time legend Gerry Creaney at a reserve game v Shrewsbury lol.

Not City-related but I met Joey Jones when out with my dad years back.
He chatted for ages and was a top bloke.

Couple of years ago me and another guy set up a charity poker night to raise funds for a blind kid to fly to China for a sight-saving operation.
Joey turned up and did the auction for us and, again, was a really genuine fella.

I have met quite a few players, due to a previous job. I must say though, far and away the best was a certain eric cantona. In 1995 cantona, sharpe and the elephant man, visited christie hospital while my dad was an in-patient. There was a young lad about 19, who was in a side room, who was extremly ill, and a united fan, who couldn't stop talking about this visit for days, unfortunatley this lad was unconscious by the time they got to the ward. My dad was having a chat with cantona and explained the lads situation, the elephant man was blurting shite about it being a shame and that they had to return for training, as the gaffer was moaning about them being so long. Cantona said something in french, thanked my dad for the information and proceeded to sit in the lads room and wait to see if he woke up, he sat there for about 40 mins, and after pressure from the scum staff, he reluctantly left him a written letter and left. Just as cantona was leaving the front exit at oak rd, this lad opened his eyes (sods law) he was crying at the thought of missing his hero, while the nurses read him the letter over and over again. Cantona looked up, and another patient said to him out the window, that he'd regained consciousness, he turned around and came back up the stairs and spent an hour with the lad, untill he drifted off back to sleep. Sorry for the long post, but i know some people in football are the enemy, but i'd just like to make it known that although he is an arrogant prick, underneath he is not bad at all.
btw, the lad died 2 days later.

Blimey, fair play to him for that.

Something I picked up on in your thread Alex.....either Cantona was so confident of his standing at United, and with Baconface, that he felt he could jib off training.
Or Bruce was lying about having to return.
Back in those days two training sessions were extremely rare so I suspect the latter.
The marshmallow-faced twat.

I once walked past Nicolas Anelka in the Trafford centre. Didn't speak to him but was surprised by how much bigger he seems in person than on TV. A very physically imposing bloke.

saw the name cantana and I started to think why the hell would you post that on here, glad i continued to read on. what a nice story and tbh makes you think some of these guys do have a heart.

I also met jeff whitley outside cellar vie a few weeks before I came out to perth.

What an absolute dick that man is. I asked him what was he up to now, to which he replied im stood here talking to you, what do you think im up to, to which i replied still trying to be famous. For someone who was pretty average he sure did think alot of himself
