The truth is it is a vibrant, modern city that is establishing itself in the world. It has oft been compared favourably to cities such as Chicago, Seattle, Vancouver and Minneapolis. It has lots of 'scenes' going on - music, arts, comedy, gay/lesbian, theatre, sports, student etc. We are multicultural and the populous speaks English and over 70 other different languages. We are incredibly tolerant, accepting, welcoming and friendly in the main. We are also fiercely protective.
It has great transport links and you're not more than a 30 minute drive from spectacular countryside. The city itself benefits from being small and compact. It has a vibe and attitude that is unique and best of all, only one football team!
Sure, it has its problems with drugs and violence at times just like any city in the world. It also suffered from years of neglect in the 70s/80s. But we came through the other side of all that bigger, better and stronger.
We are Manchester. We are unique. I love the place but understand and appreciate not everyone will get us.
