Please tell the truth about Manchester

The truth is it is a vibrant, modern city that is establishing itself in the world. It has oft been compared favourably to cities such as Chicago, Seattle, Vancouver and Minneapolis. It has lots of 'scenes' going on - music, arts, comedy, gay/lesbian, theatre, sports, student etc. We are multicultural and the populous speaks English and over 70 other different languages. We are incredibly tolerant, accepting, welcoming and friendly in the main. We are also fiercely protective.

It has great transport links and you're not more than a 30 minute drive from spectacular countryside. The city itself benefits from being small and compact. It has a vibe and attitude that is unique and best of all, only one football team!

Sure, it has its problems with drugs and violence at times just like any city in the world. It also suffered from years of neglect in the 70s/80s. But we came through the other side of all that bigger, better and stronger.

We are Manchester. We are unique. I love the place but understand and appreciate not everyone will get us.

I'd choose Manchester over any other city in the country, would I choose it over bigger cities abroad...is the question I don't know the answer to.

i like it better than london,
but london is a much bigger city, and has a lot more going on.

Physically London (region) is a bit larger than Manchester (Greater Manchester) 607 sq mi versus 493 sq mi. Population wise though it is much much more densly populated. Thats to be expected though considering London gets more public money spent on it than the rest of the UK combined. You have the city there to (banks, stockmarkets ect), the home of the goverment, Fleet street and all the tourism stuff as well. So that draws people from everywhere (world wide) to London.

Personally i fucking hate London its a cancer on this country and the rest of us in the UK are being fucked over to keep that shithole going. Seriously think about it roughly 48 million people get less spent on them than 12 million people in London (region). You get a big kick up in the news about how the scots get more money spent per person than the English. You never hear anything though of how that shithole down south gets more spent on it than the rest of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland combined.

London is the one of the main reasons large parts of the UK have never recovered once all the old industries went. Successive goverments (Labour included) took all the money generated from the rest of the country and spent it on bleeding London. Instead of investing in those areas and trying to regenerate and build somthing new.

To add insult though to injury though you dont even get value for money when you spend big in London (region). Look at Wembely it cost £900 mill they could of probably built that stadium in Manchester for less than half the bleeding price. Look at the Olympics the original bid was for £1.8 billion and thats rouse to what at least £10 billion. Manchester for that money could of put the olympics on and had every seat in the main stadium be one of those lazy boy reclining massaging chairs with a fridge built into the arm.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh i fucking hate London i hope it sinks into the sea.

totally agree with you there!

the rest of the country pays for london, and it really isnt in the public consiousness at all.

I love Manchester. Everyone's experiences of places are different but Manchester is the city where I first properly lived in England, where I fell in love with City and where I met my wife. I love the fact that it's gritty and that most outsiders have such a flawed view of the place. I love the history of the buildings & streets, the entrepreneurial spirit of the people and the humour of many of the locals even in the face of adversity. It's a city that you can navigate easily enough, somewhere you can obtain a genuine sense of identity from. I don't think there are too many places like this left in the world to be honest!

Well said, and exactly how I feel about the place too.

I was just discussing moving to Manchester with my girlfriend. I love the place. I go there other than to watch City.

Hopefully in the next year I'll be there permanent!
