Plusnet

They sent me the new hub boss and it really was simple as it gets. However i had a cable all nice and ready, i would call them to confirm tbh matey but the instalation is pain free, i was up within 4min of opening the box. If you can't see the cable in your house anywhere it would be prudent to call and confirm bud.

bar Virgin Media Cable customers, almost everyone is at the mercy of BT for the exchange-to-house segment

So if you had you pavements dug up about 15 years ago by NYNEX why would you do anything else?
I'm on VM's SLOWEST cable speed which is 75Mb/s. And it's slow tonight, I'm having to put of with a miserable 25Mb/s

Have you checked the VM forums for issues in your area? I've just dumped them because speed at night was down to below 10mb. The Animated Gif thread was soooo slow. I used to have to use my 3G connection instead.

The issue for me, they finally admitted, was over utilisation, and I was told the best thing was to just use the internet two hours later and I got a £1 credit.

The issue still isn't fixed in my area and while the majority of VM customers get super fast reliable speed, if you're in one of the problem areas, you might as well cut your losses now. Essentially parts of the network are knackered.

Tonight was the first time I've seen speedtest.net not report 75Mb/s - just run it again and its gone up to 32Mb/s - I was on 20 and they upgraded me for free without me having to ask so anything 20 or over is good enough for almost everything except Full HD KODI streaming (cough) - so I assume I'm not in a problem area.
In South Manchester the cable infrastructure is over 15 years old now so I suppose its going to need some money spending on it soon - putting it in the first place nearly bankrupted NYNEX

Sounds more like a random issue for you. I have a feeling the Virgin cables (cabinet to home at least) near me are nearing 30years old, but so are the BT ones. It could be everyone dumped BT on my street to go to VM and have freed up capacity and in turn clogged the Virgin system. I don't care who I'm with as long as I get what I pay for.

Another reason BT piss me off is their open reach 'roll out'. Still no plans for super fast broadband in our area (Edinburgh suburb). No Virgin either. It's not like we are in the middle of nowhere ffs. 5 miles from Edinburgh Princess Street. I'm still with BT for phone and broadband but feel there is nothing better to change to.

I've been on Openreach Fibre for 5 years. Swapped between BT to Plusnet to BT with no problems to get better deals. Swapped to TalkTalk at the start of the year. Disaster with speeds. Swapped back to Plusnet and all is good again.

As others have said, you're at the mercy of Openreach to the exchange, then it's down to your ISP. For me, TT sucked.

A few years ago i remember helping someone in the sticks that could get a max 2 Mbps and a bit of research turned up a new company offering SatelliteBroadband. As it turned out it was massively expensive(aimed at rural business would be my guess).
you could give that a whirl...that will depend if you wake up at night to see if you have lost any sleep(thanks Big Yin), like most Scots

one provider here but first to come up on google as an example

Not really had a problem with Plusnet fibre in last 5 yrs. Consistent 30+ Mbps download speed, however did notice considerable speed drops using wireless (router being quite far away in different room and on a different level probably attributed to this).

Now have everything connect using cat5, which admittedly is not ideal for everyone but works a treat.
