Plymouth Argyle (H) | FA Cup | Post Match Thread

Yes they beat Liverpool who had arguably two players from a their possible starting 11. They was also at home. We had Bernardo, Grealish, KDB, Foden, Gundog, Ake, Rico etc all players with many first team minutes under their belt. Whilst arguably more of a second string side yesterday, it was not comparable to Liverpool playing the likes of Nyoni, Mcconnell, Quansah and such like players. Put it this way, we had 5 players on the pitch yesterday we played against Madrid at home. Congrats though, you have shown a severe lack of footballing intellegence with that comment. Us looking shit yesterday is completley and utterly irrelevant to them beating Livepool at home. Just a couple of week ago they went to Blackburn and lost 2-0 why is that not the example? Why is the measure not their season as a whole fighting for their lives to stay in the second tier of English football?
Just stated a fact
I have no idea how they play week to week as I don’t watch them
We got the job done with a second 11 albeit with some experienced players who are in my opinion past their best

South stand lower was not moved and was very quiet.

I agree about Reis. I was impressed with O'Reilly too.

Plymouth were well organised but I don't think they are a very good side. They didn't have one player who could play. We weren't great either but it was a 2nd XI.
I'm not even sure they were that well organized. There were pockets of space everywhere. That front three (and Gundo + Bernie) two seasons ago would have obliterated them. Yesterday underlined something that I think most of us had resigned ourselves too: at least three of them five need to be out.

Well if that is the case then I was ahead of the curve when complaining about it last year and then early this season whilst we was still top of the league. If you are still winning then style isn't overly relevant but when we perform like this season then it comes into question. Don't belittle my opinion thinking I am swayed by the media, I pay and watch City every week and form my own opinion. Our build up has bored me for a while, even when winning. I know why we was slow and boring yesterday, my point was how that approach can barely work against a shite side trying to stay up in the league below. Football evolves and we need to evolve with it. With the faster direct wingers I no doubt believe that is the direction we are going in
More like Gundogan, KDB and Walker got old. I've seen this argument put forward in the media that City are struggling because football has evolved and its really stupid. Yes we have played sideways football but that has nothing to do with evolution of tactics. It's do with a team reaching the end of its life. But thankfully, if late, we have started to refresh City

Overall poor, we needed two set pieces to break through second from bottom of the championship. It shows that we no pace or zero direct players on the pitch that yet again, if a team as poor as Plymouth can contain us pretty easily. The slow, boring build up days are gone and Pep needs to wise up to it. Glad KDB got his goal but it is a hard watch him struggling against that level.Into the next round though, no CL to stop us playing our full strength the rest of this comp now, we chucked a load of semis in the past with having a difficult CL tie cropping up
I'm not a huge xG or stat fan but they tell a story of absolute dominance. The anxiety creeps in because we go behind and don't take the lead until 75th minute.

But no-one could argue if that ended 5 or 6-1 based on how the game went (virtually same xG as vs Salford). And we looked absolutely comfortable throughout (they had one shot, the goal).

Things aren't perfect at City but yesterday's performance is not one of the issues concerning me.

What a pair of absolute cunts. Absolutely shocking that media outlets can been so openly biased. Pathetic pricks. I'm actually truly shocked, even by then openly biased tripe we usual have to watch this is shocking. So unprofessional
Good grief …it’s like a poor copy of of the shite CBS do with Richards Carragher and Henry.

What is it with US coverage of English football going down the ‘bantz’ route.

At the end of the day we’re in the draw, we’re in with a good shout of another appearance at Etihad South

I’ll be watching the Fulham game today, watching that shower of shit in red puts this season’s disappointment into perspective…….

They are past their best, but if you give KDB time, he can hurt the opponent. He had a good game vs Plymouth and featured in the goals and our best efforts.

I have been moaning about him this season but when he plays well we should acknowledge it.

We took 20 minutes to warm up. Usual slow sideways crap. Then played slightly better before conceding. Then we nabbed an equalizer and controlled the 2nd half completely. You can only beat what's in front of you. It was our 2nd string as well and we got to take a look at Reis and O'Reilly again, both huge positives.

I've been fairly vocal about the team (mostly the management) this year, so I'm no Happy Clapper but we're through and quite comfortably, so what's not to like?

Enjoyed the win yesterday but we made that utterly hard work.

Like an opposition player said earlier in the season "when City have the ball, we rest".

That is so true. Plymouth yesterday were so comfortable whilst we passed it from Bernie out on the RW, all over to Grealish on the LW. Rinse and repeat.

Game only changed when Erl came on. And most likely because the Plymouth players were more focused on him than anyone else.

Yeah but they beat Liverpool? So what!! Prior to beating Liverpools second string they were humped 5.0 off Burnley and have won 1 in 5 since.

Our performances are still well below par and will have to improve hugely to secure top 4/5 and have a chance at winning the FA cup.

I saw one comment yesterday saying that he/she wants to play Man Utd at OT in the next round!

Pep knew what he was doing. He didn't pick the strongest XI, he picked a side that would win the game.

I see some of the match day thread bollox has trickled into here. Just thought I’d post the stats below to prove what hyperbole bollox was being spoken IMG_1285.jpeg
Sometimes you just need to trust the best, triple, quad, 100 points, 4 in a row winning manager. There was no point at all in that game, even when we were one down, that I thought we wouldn’t win that game comfortably. They didn’t create one chance from open play. Slated players like Grealish, Gund, Kev, Bernardo etc ensured we didn’t get counter attacked at all - which was their game plan. And we moved up a gear when we needed to. He also brought Haaland on at the perfect time. Honestly, some fans need to get a grip and stop crying just because we aren’t winning everything this season. It’s impossible to do that. Miserable, moaning fuckers

Remind me again how many Brentford and the dippers scored against this lot? Their goal was a set piece, so what. They stuck everyone behind the ball and their aim was another fluke or penalties. It was never going to be like Salford who played an open game. We did what we needed to do with plenty of youngsters getting a chance who some took, others didn’t. A makeshift 11 are through to the last eight with no Chelsea, dippers, Arsenal, Spurs involved. As for saying the greatest ever manager needs to wise up, words fail me. Give your head a wobble and accept we are going through a period of transition after a decade of dominance.

Looked to me like Pep showing the world, the players themselves, and his new DoF just what 90 minutes of big name squad players looks like these days.

Can’t remember a team getting 20 corners in a game prior to this match
