Consumers carry more voting weight than exporters, they're trying to get through to 2024 without shit hitting the fan employment wise in exports and price wise in the shops if you ask me.
The price rises are there, they are being masked because of built up stocks that are unused due to covid closures. Once things open up those stocks will soo be replaced by more expensive supplies. By late summer we will see rises feed through to consumers.

If it happens gradually though it'll have far less of an effect on Polling than if it happens all in one go. If it had happened on the 1st January you would have seen riots. Gradually over 6-12 months? People are used to inflation after all.

The important bit (for me and many others) is the requirement to provide evidence of Medical Insurance ..... most of the people who emigrate to Spain are retired and elderly. This means that many have pre existing medical conditions which the insurance companies wont cover... this means that you not only have to shell out a fortune for the policy to begin with (and it doesn't get cheaper as you get older) but you have to have enough in the bank account to cover you for any excess and to make sure that you can afford to pay for any pre existing illness that may reappear.

Gove lied.
Only the very well off will be able to move to Spain in the future. Think you need a salary of 27k+ plus medical insurance plus a lump sum already in your account.

Price rises will soon be noticed once the shops re open.

For those who don't click through... The highlight:

"Exactly what might have made the Europeans so suspicious of the lie-telling, law-breaking, flag-hugging UK will remain a mystery..."
They should have gone for 'flag-shagging' IMO.

How long will this useless buffoon get away with the lies - no rules changed - they were always there, the fact that he wrote to cabinet colleagues last year warning them that this would happen should expose his lies yet the press give him a free pass ! Also - given his role - you'd think he would know how quickly shell fish goes off which is what finding "new" markets almost impossible.

because of course no-one in the US and Canada makes cheese already do they........fucking useless

Very hard to export cheese to the states, they have different ideas of what makes a good cheese to Europe and some very established brands/creameries/dairies. Kerry Group have a bit of a market built up there with the Irish ex-pats but it wouldn't compare to what they sell in Ireland and the UK, or even mainland Europe.

I have seen Canadian cheddar in UK supermarkets - not sure what market there would be there for UK Cheddar and with a large French/Canadian population I am guessing they would be more interested in French Brie than Cornish Brie?
As for America you have the Italian American fraternity using Mozzarella, Parmesan and Provalone - the Greeks the Feta amd the Americans make their own cheddar in Wisconsin ( I think ) and import from Canada then there is their love of "Swiss" cheese - a generic terms for those types cheeses and of course those hideous Kraft cheese slices they love.
Its like with the shell fish - just to fob an industry off with "sell into other markets" as an answer is a disgrace - the Govt are either ignorant or afraid of the truth that Brexit brings. The simple fact is we spent 40 years establishing markets in the EU where it was advantageous for us to trade products that we had over those 40 years honing and refining to suit that market. The idea that you can just ship seafood to Australia ( where they have enough of their own anyway ) or cheese to Canada ( they too have enough of their own ) and build up new markets across the globe in less than 10 years whilst at the same time the reduction in opportunity within the EU having zero impact on your own economy is just nonsense.
