Very divisive old Freddie, I get that people admire his range and you can't deny he was an incredible showman but the theatricality of his voice and performances, which was what some people loved so much, just didn't do anything for me.

The fun of these threads is the wide variety of tastes and thinking about how your own have evolved over the years, when I was a callow gladioli wielding youth I thought Johnny Cash couldn't sing but eventually I realised my younger self was an idiot.

Yeah but when a band has been around that long and has a discography that extensive; shouting "bollox" and "awful" shows a degree of ignorance. Like saying the Beatles were cavern club shite or that all classical music is the same, the Smiths are depressing etc etc.

As for Johnny Cash - great voice that totally suited his style.

Doesn’t matter who we think is better than someone else; this is who our favourite is.

I have favourite singers/lead singers who I don’t think are anywhere near the best singers of all time. Just like I have favourite songs by bands that I don’t think are their best songs, just that they’re my personal favourites.
