Porto (h) post-match thread

It does make you wonder about the officials and whatever instructions they are under. Last night was embarrassing from Porto and the ref - only four fouls against them and one yellow? I won't be surprised next week if Marseille continue this vein and try to con the ref for fouls around the 20yd line, as Payet is dangerous on the dead ball. Looking forward to it though, have City ever played Marseille?

Yes, Mendy. I don’t rate him, but for balance he is the best bet if we want natural width with an inverted left winger. Ake I love, but he is more of a stay back and defend full back, which has its merits in certain games, but in that scenario, Ferran has to stay wide all game and I want to see him coming in centrally as often as possible. If we play Ake there the ball would just keep going back into the holding midfielder or centre backs. I’d only play Ake left back if we had natural left-footed width infront of him. But post-Sane we don’t really have that.
We can't win the CL or PL with Mendy at left back. Sadly he has been destroyed by his injuries. He is targeted by opposing teams as a weak link in every match. When this happens it de-stabilises the whole team especially the centre backs who have to move out of position to cover for him. Ake is the only option there for now (Cancelo showed again last night that he is only a right back). Mendy can only play against the weaker teams.

Who would have thought that playing Mahrez, Gundo and Rodri in the same 11 would make us slow and predictable? Now that Fern is out, i'd hope he rotates Gundo and Rodri for the same spot and not play them both at the same time. However, with KDB only just returning from injury it means Bernie & Foden are the only fit 8's apart from Gundo. We will probably see more of this, great...
Agree with this and you can add Garcia to the slow-pace brigade. I thought Gundo was great last night but, like most of us, hate Gundo and Rodri together (they have to rotate in my view). I thought Mahrez was good last night but he does slow down play. Of course there are times when we need to slow down play when we are 2-0 up etc. Foden and Torres will be the future moving forward. They look fantastic on the left.

Certainly get a 7 and above for their diving antics

A good win but a defensive mess.

Garcia is over rated. I'd rather try and get Stones into form. Cancelo is a poor LB, Zinc is a better choice if not Mendy. Dias and Walker looked fine. (Where was Ake not even on the bench).

All others were good. Nice to see Torres getting a decent goal - full of confidence to do that.

Bernado coming good again.

I dont usually slag players off,but Mahrez was fking lazy,& checking back might as well not bother & that step over reminds me of of koralav crossing every one knew it was going to be low so just sticky your foot out,to obvious.

Agreed, but a RB playing LB when we have a player sitting on the bench who has played there before was a silly idea.
I agree with you mate, but that doesn't excuse the fact that as a professional footballer he couldn't tackle or pass the fucking ball.
He should have been dragged off for that shit he served up for their goal, that was embarrassing.
