Porto memories

This sounds very similar to the Frank I met on Friday... Absolute unit but a lovely man and the only chap we met who managed to keep us on the draught pints after 10.30! We nicknamed him Frank the tank but unfortunately didn't manage to meet up again.

Class trip - shit result, top quality blues!
That was City in the 1980's - :)

OK, here goes. Got back a few hours ago after just about the best 6 days in my many years on this planet.

Friday Ribiera - what a day. What a welcome sight seeing a sea of sky blue as we wandered down the hill. Even the Gorton drugs feud fight added a certain edge to proceedings. Proper scrap that. Even though it probably cost @Didsbury Dave a few quid.

On to Ryan's Bar for a great sing song until closing. Appearances from Zabba, Buzzer, Paul Dickov, even Frannie. Vinnie up the road singing with more Blues. Atmosphere was electric. Great to hear the Zinchenko song gaining traction. Breakthrough season for that little ditty.

There something that the Kippax want you to know,
The best full back in the world is Zinchenko,
He's from Ukraine,
City's gonna win the league again,
Si Senor,
The scousers are not champions anymore.

Great song - feel free to join in next season.

Saturday - Ribiera immense. Zabba again. Buzzer and Tina respectfully applauded (well done Blues). Back to Ryan's pre-match serenading the locals.

Game - meh.

Sunday - still loads about, great Jager session with the Failsworth lads.

Monday - see Sunday
Tuesday - thinning out but still Blues on the ale.
Wednesday - great steak at KOB - @bluemist would approve.
Thursday - back to reality, sailed through an empty airport.

Biggest takeaway from the trip?
OUR SUPPORT IS IMMENSE.

The locals were left with a great impression of our City and its boys in Blue. The Chavs we spoke to, when it was safe for them to venture out to the Ribiera, were in awe of us. We lost, but sucked it up, and still had a party.

Proud to be a Mancunian Blue.

Proud of every single one of us who, despite spending hours on paperwork and fortunes on shitty tests, went out and did our club proud.

It's great being us.

Until the next time boys and girls.

Not heard the zinchenko song, I take it that’s from Liverpool’s Firmino one? If so count me out

Forgot one of the most important memories FFS.

Andy Morrison. What a man. What a reception he got.

This is what separates us from the Rags and bin dippers. The guy played less than 30 games for us, was only a journeyman professional, but the leader who pulled us up by the balls and helped us get where we were on Saturday night.

That would never happen at the swamp or klanfield. Never. He's as revered as Vinnie and Kun to City fans.

That's what separates us from them lot. We're humble enough to know our heroes come in all shapes and sizes, but put that blue shirt on and become giants.

Enough from me.

Now, wheres me Jager???

What a top post that is. Now things are settling down the great memories are coming back to me one by one. Buzzer being respectfully applauded through the square is definitely one of them. Hugging and consoling fellow lifelong blues and mates after the game is another

I heard that it was the Moston cIgarette beef, though.

youve reminded me of something else. Word went round that Vinny had jumped out of a taxi and given a speech to a load of blues.

Cheers Dave.

Chinese whispers...before you know it, it'll be known as the Triad Cociana Chocolate battle of the Ribiera.

Vinnie was passing some Blues across the road from Ryan's Bar in a car with his Mrs and was rumbled. The Vinnie song went up and he got out, sang his own song with them, dropped the mike and sped off into the distance. I heard also, a very young City kid got in and hugged him and sang it in the car with him.

Just typical of the day really.

Great couple of posts.

My lad got a picture of Morrison on his way to the game and told him " My dad loves you, hes only down the hill he will be gutted he missed you".

Morrison took his time with all photo requests, what a legend.

Kompany could not get in his taxi outside his hotel quick enough to fuck off Sunday morning in direct contrast.

Like you the one thing that makes me feel better after such a crushing defeat was our support, it was awesome, so proud to be Blue. Just like the old days.

Cheers Dave.

The myth is better than the truth then. I liked the idea that he'd given a speech. There was something in the air all weekend that you knew that ALL the City legends were around. It went along with bumping into old mates from the shit days who you knew had been on the same journey as you. We had a beer with Ian Niven's grandson. Now I don't know if you know who he is but he's one of those names you saw at the front of the programme in the 80s like Eric Alexander. Life president or whatever. He's now 97 and was in the hotel there being looked after by his grandson. Ian Niven spent his entire working life working for MCFC and has apparently supported them since the 30's. Imagine that. He's seen most of City's history. He was there to complete his life in some ways. And his grandson was emotional telling us all about it.

things like this going on meant that just before kickoff I filled with emotion. I kept getting goosebumps. Filling up with tears because of what this meant, for me 45 years of unwavering support and devotion. Everyone was hugging and pinching themselves.

When we win this fucking thing next year or the year after this occasion will fuel the euphoria even further.

That Ian Niven story just about sums up the day. When Frannie appeared a friend I was with was chatting earnestly with him about Roy Bailey. I've been going to City with this guy for years and only found out on Saturday that he was Roy's nephew! I found out by him having a conversation with Frannie Lee about him. Crazy stuff.

The whole trip was emotional on so many levels. How you describe your feelings before kick off was exactly how I felt. It maybe contributed to the perceived lack of atmosphere in the City end. I don't know. Whatever. I don't care about the perception, just being there was enough, as it was for so many of us.

The next one will be very different.

We were in Ryan’s Friday night from about 10pm until 11ish I think ?
En route back to the hotel & pissed!!! Then we spotted more singing!

Oh let’s have one more , or several!!!

What time did the ex blues appear? It was messy

The atmosphere outside there was brilliant! Got vids of my lad (17) bouncing around with the paisley bucket hat.
He absolutely loved it. It was worth thmoney just for that

what a weekend regardless of the result

until the next time !!!
And it will happen
