Posh and Posher: Public schoolboys and politics

Would you have us all living in the same housing, driving the same car and earning the same wage? (Ibelieve this system has proved very successful in Eastern Europe in the past!) It’s human nature to strive for more and wanted better for ourselves. For instance why do you take such pride in being promoted to ‘Chair’ of some god awful trade union? May not be financial gain in it, but it’s the status and you know it.
Do you really believe that the old eastern bloc paid ALL people the same wage?
Or that Party Officials lived in the same houses as those that worked on the prodction lines?
We need to have apsirations to strive for, wether that is a 50 inch widescreen TV in 3d or a bigger house, or a flashier car is irrelevant, but we CANNOT and MUST NOT allow the financially strongest to walk all over the weak and vulnerable in society just to boost their profits.
The reason why I would be proud to be elected Branch Chair, would be because it would be as a result of my hard work as a Branch Representative, often pointing out the flaws and errors of proposed changes that Management are trying to bring in, sometimes in breach of Legislation and sometimes as an attack on the terms and conditions of myself and my colleagues.
As the current Chair is standing down due to ill health, I feel that it is vital we continue to have a strong and hard working committee, and certainly not for any personal "status".

one day , when you grow up, you will see the idiocy of post like this for what they are. perhaps if you stopped looking for excuses as to why some "working class" people don't get on in life you would see the wood for trees. Oh, I come from a working class background and have been homeless on a few occasions carrying my worldly possessions in a rucksack and I would never blame anyone but myself for my many failures in life. Would you?

Would Dave and his posh mates ever have to carry their worldly possessions in a rucksack. except on a pretentious round the world dosing trip (payed for by daddy?) Nope...........they would forever be comfortable because money has been in the family for ever and a day. Call me old fashioned but i don't want to be ruled by someone like Blair or Cameron who has known nothing but a comfortable life. I want my politicians to have lived a life, had to work hard, had to of broken a sweat. I trust not on posh toff who has been gifted 10 pupils per class teaching, has had his/her education funded and designed to make sure great grades are gained, have been pushed into Oxford to learn politics, has slid into a special advisory role in the toff party because daddy goes to the same club as the big wig in the party and 10 years later is being gifted a safe seat. That isn't hard work...that is a mere privalidge.......And NO I'm not suggesting a communist state. I'm suggesting ALL money left after death should be given to the state and not handed down thus making a comfortable life a gimme for certain people. Any money they earn for themselves from their own toil is for them and best of luck to them.

By the way...how may working class people make it to Wimbledon center court in our country........about the same who make it to Eton id say!!!!!!

sorry mate but this is nonsense. do you really think that the party hierarchy under communism were not the same people who would have got to the top (and stayed there) under capitalism?

1) I have been to Wimbledon centre court 3 out of the last 5 years. Enter the draw every year and you'll get picked.

2) Again another snide dig at David Cameron of the "cos he's posh 'im" type.....its getting very dull now. Judge the man by what he has achieved not your own petty jealousy.

3) Intersting that no person has yet to comment on my post about respecting David Camerons work ethic and desire.

Answer me this;

With all the wealth Cameron has, should we not respect the fact that he has worked very hard to become PM. Regardless of where he schooled etc, you only get to be PM (a very low paid job compared to top bankers etc) through hard work.

If he had gone round the world bumming about for 10 years and lived the high life off his family wealth then I'd have no respect for him, but he didn't. Being the PM is a shitty job, you work ridiculous hours, rarely see your family, constantly under scrutiny and put up with dickish comments from the idiots on threads like this....yethe CHOSE to do this-whether you like the man or not that deserves some respect.

Hahaha.

It's the rank inequality of opportunity I'm concerned about, making a mockery of a supposedly meritocratic country. Not 'I hate them because they're rich'. It's just that someone like me; state educated, (hopefully) going to a good university, is going to have to work much harder to get into a job in something like Politics, than an Eton/Oxbridge toff (for want of a better adjective).

Just want to pick you up on something here. I know it's not really the point you're trying to make, but it's a bit of a personal gripe of mine:

PLEASE can we dissociate schools like Eton from Oxbridge? It's not the same thing!

I was lucky enough to get a place at Oxford doing PPE (I graduated last year)....and I worked VERY hard to get it. I don't come from a well-off background, both of my parents are teachers in state schools. Yet all I get now is 'well you must be some upper-class d*ckhead'. I swear that at least 60% of people, after they've found out I went there, say 'f*kin hell must have cost you a bomb, that!'...as if Oxbridge is somehow another form of fee-paying private school!

It is of course true that Oxbridge still disproportionately favours Old Etonians etc, but that shouldn't mask the fact that you still have to get there on merit!
Good point well made, though the point I was trying to make (as you have pointed out) is the favour Eton/similarly prominent private schools have when it comes to places at top unis like Oxford/Cambridge. Also realise that not everyone who goes to Oxbridge is a toff, but the majority who make the Eton -> Oxbridge progression will be. That's who I was getting at in my post, perhaps should've been clearer.

how many have played at Wimbledon not watched............how many working class lads get through to play tennis at the highest level from our country. none. why? cos its a closed shop, oiks need not apply......and they wonder why we never win, cos there is no fight in people who have not had to struggle for anything in life.

Bluemoon's answer to Boris Johnson strikes again...

Once again in your repeated rush to prove the "success" and validity of your life choices, you completely miss the deeper point being made-thus making an an even bigger oaf of yourself.

BTW-Got any more of that badly worded,cut-and-paste "all socialists are mental" blog gibberish for us to laugh at?

How may middle/upper class footballers are there.....again what people are not doing is looking at things from both sides.

And how proud did the 'ones who have had to struggle in life' make us this summer in South Africa?

Where have I proved success? If you know anything about the subject matter OR read my post/point properly you would see I was highlighting that the ticketing policy for Wimbledon is far from eliteist. You berk.
