Positive BBC thread

I’m sure there are some people who have sat down and very carefully weighed up the pros and cons of the BBC and decided in good faith that the balance is tipped in favour of defunding it for them personally.

I also that that there are many people who are convinced that every single thing they don’t like ( including the BBC ) is because the PC, lefty, woke mob have taken over the world. They use phrases like ‘MSM’ and ‘Uni-party’ a lot. And demand a return to the non existent halcyon days of their youth, when you could call a spade a spade, without Kier Starmer turning up and throwing you in a prison cell, he’s just released a bad nonce from to make room for them.

Whatever you do or don't think of the BBC, people probably undervalue it - I think there's been a couple of studies where people who say they don't like it/want to pay for it agree to be completely cut off from it. In one of them I think within 10 days two thirds had changed their minds; the other study was similar I think.

A lot of people only judge it on what they get out of it and like rather than the services it provides for everyone. Even though I personally don’t consume it, I thought cuts to local radio were a real shame, as well as the damage to our soft power by cutting the world service.

They have an annual estimated income of £5.5 billion and people think it's good value because they made Vicar Of Dibley once, we hear constantly that the left and right are unhappy with their political bias but yet the left constantly defend it in their droves.

End it, end it now :)

I don’t think they do, I think the people that want it to continue to be politically neutral in its news output are the ones that defend it the most.

On the whole far better value than Sky.
The IPlayer a much under appreciated streaming service.
Early Doors still on and a great radio show as well.

My eldest thought iPlayer was basically streaming for granny's until I actually got him to look at it properly and which point he changed his mind, there's definitely an image problem with younger adults (possibly older) that they need to find a way to address.

Apparently every year when they survey people about BBC bias, about 20% think it's too left wing, about 20% think it's too right wing and the other 60% are fine with it.

As I said, people who are right wing want it to shut, you're a left winger so you defend it.

That's what I stated.

Think how much effort is being made by so many social media/independent podcast/rival stations to constantly spout anti BBC rhetoric - get rid of the BBC and there's even more millions of news followers that will look elsewhere.

I’m not a left winger though!

I know plenty of conservatives that still realise the importance of the bbc, I’d say the same for most that are anywhere across the centre left to centre right as well as those that don’t consider themselves particularly political at all. It’s the extremes that don’t like it and that’s true of both left and right wings - they judge it both more politically and more self-centeredly as a consequence.

Ahh well mate you have your opinion and I have mine, for me it's a busted flush and for 5.5 billion quid a year we could invent something a little better at delivering entertainment and news.

Just to check, are you saying you still want a public broadcaster, just not the BBC in its current guise? As that’s a different argument to scrapping it altogether.

I’d absolutely want to see changes to where they cut their funding and some of the things they still fund, I’m arguing them as being important from a public broadcast perspective, not how it’s currently run.
