De Jong's original position for Ajax where he learned his trade in the famous youth acadamy was Defense
he plays best as a defender to my opinion, strong, physical presence with speed to match most.

I broadly agree your first team, but the fact you have swp and mj as central midfield in team 2 shows where we are short on numbers, especially now Elano has gone

Anyone think that one reason Hughes is so keen on Lescott is so that at home against weaker teams we could go with three at the back?

If lescott were to come, the defence would no doubt be rock solid, i reckon a partnership with toure would be awesome
The thing is, where would kompany play? Last season he was one of the undisputed first 11 players, but now he wouldnt be preferred above lescott and toure, and de jong would probably get the DM spot. I'm actually quite sad about that, because a player with kompany's abilities in my opinion doesnt deserve to be a backup..
