Possible moving of EL3 Fans

Well, Fellow Blues, it seems like I opened up a hornet's nest with my OP, but that of course was my intention.

In addition to those of us in EL3 who would be well pissed off if we are moved , it hasn't surprised me that there are also many South Standers who believe that it would be the right thing to do. Whilst I obviously disagree, I also accept that everyone is entitled to an opinion.

I would expect that like many SC Holders in EL3, a hell of a lot of our counterparts in the South Stand sit/stand there because that's the part of the ground where they prefer to be.

If we are moved from EL3 to other parts of the ground it would inconvenience thousands of fans, and not only those being relocated. If things stayed as they are it would inconvenience very few, if any, fans at all.

In addition to the dubious logistics of access, exit, catering, toilets, security etc in EL3 it seems to me that the argument of 'One End' is based purely on the wish of fans to have their 'One End' and as an earlier poster put it, never mind anything else. Never mind the fans in EL 1 & 2 who it would also effect one way or another (access, exit, potential crowd disturbance from above etc).

There is no certainty that the atmosphere will change as a result (indeed the Villareal experiment indicated otherwise). Plus, I'm sure it would do nothing to make the many thousands who leave early change their ways.
(For the record, I'm not one of them, neither do I take a flask or butties to the game).

Do the many of us who have prime seats in EL3 relish the thought of being shunted possibly into a lower row in the SS1 ? Of course we don't. Put yourselves into our positions for a moment, guys - how would you feel if the boot was on the other foot ?

The most sensible solution IMO is as an earlier poster suggested : Wait until the stadium is extended and then make proper provision for Away fans without all these hit & miss suggestions to make do and mend. You would then no doubt have your 'One End' and we could all continue to enjoy our football.

One other point that hasnt been mentioned yet (that i am aware of), a lot of those in EL3 are the old school that made up the Kippax of years gone by, many are now over 50 and might not wish - be able to stand for the entire game, how will this go down with the i will do what I want brigade?

FWIW, I think the atmosphere at CoMS is as good as it ever was at MR in my lifetime, and it's better now than it's ever been since we moved.

As an aside, anyone heard anything about some of us in 105 getting shifted to make way for more padded seat corporate/hospitality types? One guy in our row reckons it's coming but nobody else has heard owt.

Don't complain, my comfy seat in 207 is bloody lovely.

There's 2 things I have never understood about this moving the away fans...

- it looks shit on telly with the away fans where they are. Seriously? I don't think I've ever been to the game and thought, this is all very well, but I bet folk in Luton and Lahore are looking at this and thinking those away fans are really spoiling my enjoyment of the game with their positioning

- Villareal was a pretty shocking atmosphere for most of the game. Folk have referred to the Kop, Stretford End, Gallowgate as being a single end to generate atmosphere. Have you been to the Swamp, Anfield or St James recently? It's like a morgue. Hamburg is always being referred to as a game when it all came together, as far as I remember there were almost 3000 Germans in the South Stand helping. You need away fans to bounce off. Are folk in the SS and corner of the Kippax stood there thinking "you know, I could sing a bit more, but those pesky away fans are getting in the way, so I'll keep my mouth shut"? Stoke are pretty much the best fans for creating a home atmosphere and they stick away fans behind a goal, they just get on with it.

Good post. And since you mention Stoke that matches my own amazing idea which was sparked by the superb Hamburg atmosphere.

Every time there was a lull, some group of exiled south stander nutjobs would stand up and get everyone nearby singing. The atmosphere was amazing as songs sparked up all around the ground. People will sing, they just need a reason to join in. Most of the time they don't.

my idea, fwiw, is to have a small "singing section" in every single block, rather than to have a "singing section" at any particular part of the ground, so that when someone buys a ticket / renews they are asked "would you and your friends be willing to move to the singing section in the middle of your block, it's 10 seats further along, 10 rows back". Nobody would need to move far.

(I wouldn't move because I'm not the type who starts a song, I'm the type who picks up the second line, and loudly - this arrangement would suit me down to the ground, I'm not ashamed to admit that)

Those who want to stand up and yell abuse at the away fans can stay where they are.

Those who want to keep their view they've had for years can stay where they are.

In fact, almost everyone can stay where they are.

You'd only piss off a handful of people in each block, and they wouldn't even have to leave their block either. Once the club have an idea of how many would want to relocate, they can allocate a group of seats in the dead centre of that block (so that the "singing section" makes everyone get up off their arses and you don't disadvantage people who wanted a seat at the end of the row / front row / back row) and turf everyone out of those particular seats into ones further away.

It's a rough plan, but I think it'd have the best effect. You could also do it gradually over a number of seasons and make the most of natural atrition.

The only difficulty might be persuading enough south stander nutjobs to move there.

If the club needs another trial match you'll get one in the home leg of the LC semi final..... ;-)

shocking idea. Will kill what atmosphere we have by removing the main source of banter. Give the away fans the best view in the ground. Mean blues in the middle tier have away fans above them, and understandably annoy all those who have to relocate. Some of whom have no chance of getting an equivalent seat.

Having read a few more pages it tanspires that its nobody from the club then just somebody 'assuming?' In that case ive heard the whole of the south stand is being relocated to the National opera house in convent garden so they can sing to their hearts content....just summat i heard like.

Standing yes,smoking no, however that will be offset by them selling ice cream tubs at half time;-)
