Yep. As I said previously, considering how utter woeful May's campaign has been, and considering that Labour bought so many student votes and others, they would be wise to sit and think "why did we not win, and what do we need to change, so we can win in the future". The conservatives will sure as hell be sitting down to analyse what went wrong (that should not take more than 2 minutes imo). But Labour should do the same. It's no use being a party of protest, which is one of the main reasons why Labour MP's refused to back Corbyn previously. He's done much better than they imagined. Much, much better. And still lost.

This was never an election Labour could win.

Corbyn has increased the percentage vote from 30% two years ago to over 40% now and 30 extra seats.

There are no prizes for second place, but Labour is better placed than it was a few weeks back, the Tories weaker, so happy days for progressives.

I think the interesting thing here is that the UKIP vote split and ended them as any sort of credible outlet. Also the cracks started to show in the SNP vote in Scotland.

So now in England it's straight Labour v Conservative again with all the UKIP vote gone to one or the other. And in Scotland it's Labour/Tory v SNP.

I've not looked at the figures in detail but off the top of my head I reckon if Labour can engineer something like a 2.5% swing from Tory/SNP next time (and that will be sooner rather than later) they will have a great chance of taking power.

In terms of % of national vote it's neck and neck. What each party needs to do to grab a little more is the question. I don't see what labour can change but maybe momentum would get them across the line, the Tories need a new leader and policies.

Let's hope so! I think the touch paper has been lit & momentum will gather for Labour. If there is another election I think they will have a real chance.

Charismatic, level headed, a small 'c' conservative popular with the public in Scotland, the Tories would be foolish to be blind to what she could bring them.

So many seats with incredibly low majorities an extra little swing here or there could have given the Tories an overal majority or made it impossible for the Tories to form a minority government.

All I've hinted at is that he's not done brilliantly
As the campaigns have rolled on Corbyn has changed an awful lot of opinion about himself and won over many voters
He's been aided hugely by a terrible Tory campaign and that the right wing press have gone massively over the top in their attacks on him and people have protested against what they see as bullying

It has been a good night for Labour, but not brilliant. And they will never see power again unless they win back Scotland

I heard Dawn Primarolo being interviewed this morning, and if you'd just turned the TV on, you would have sworn Labour had won.

It's a bit like us sending our under 19's to play Real Madrid's first team and our lads have come back and only lost 2-1. Both teams "lost". Real for not scoring 7, and our lads, because they did actually lose.

Its true though and you lost the election despite promising all of public sector workers a pay rise and free tuition fees to the students. Its a bit like me saying to my kids - i cant give you £10 a week spends and my mrs says no but i will - who are they going to vote for?
