I've just watched tonight's Panorama about the Post Office and Fujitsu scandal. I know the story has been well documented and I was familiar with it through Private Eye and the Nick Wallis programmes on Radio 4 but every time I am reminded, I can't help wondering why nobody from either organisation has faced prosecution for the cover-up.

There is a public enquiry taking place at the moment but that will run for a long time. I only hope that some of the fuckers responsible face jail time as some of the Postmasters did. People committing suicide as a result of mismanagement is shameful.

If you haven't seen the programme or don't know the history, it's worth looking at to see what there bastards were up to.

Someone should be in serious trouble over this.

I am no computer expert can do emails and cut and paste and post pictures, that's it.
But surely if you put a new IT System in and it suddenly shows 100's of mistakes by PO masters. Than my first thought would be there is something wrong with the hardware.
It seems the first thought of the post office was every post master/mistress was on the fiddle.

I didn’t see all of the TV programme but did catch the fact that Horizon scored bottom in SEVEN out of the 12 measures used to evaluate the submitted tenders, but did score top in the ‘cheapness’ category.

Shocking that it won the tender.

The main problem was/is the fact that the Post Office undertake their own investigations and prosecutions. They will have known that there was a problem but they chose to ignore it.
If nothing else they need to be stripped of the right to investigate their own.

Not sure that’s legally possible. Anyone is entitled to bring a prosecution. You, me and the Post Office.

Was actually involved in one of these (not a prosecution) and despite the flat denials it was clear to anyone with any street savvy that they knew the system was utterly flawed. Body language, their willingness to settle, general demeanour all pointing in that direction.

Would like to see the key decision makers punished for this, but I’m struggling to see it happening. Common sense and logic must have told them that all these people of good character couldn’t have been getting busy. It simply didn’t add up, and yet they chose to ignore that and ultimately be responsible for huge amounts of avoidable human misery.

Fucking lowlife cunts.

When you did the case I assume disclosure was not as it is now and therefore they could hide more ? Nowadays I presume they would have to disclose and therefore expose the problems ?
As you say the investigation team must have known something was wrong, my point about stopping them being able to prosecute is this. If I took out a private prosecution, the CPS would step in and probably stop it. With these they didn't.

I've followed The Eye investigation and it seems the people responsible have moved on to other well-remunerated positions in other organisations. Suicides and bankruptcies were all part of the mix. They knew the system was flawed and tried to persuade others that it was 'foolproof'! Skunks, and I do apologise to any skunks Bluemooners might have as pets!

I’ve already said, it’s wasn’t a prosecution. It wasn’t criminal, it was a mediation and no rules of disclosure applied.

tbf, the CPS only step in and discontinue in the most extreme of circumstances.
