I just didn't care about an old tree being cut down.
I suppose thousands of trees get cut down every day, but it was the act of cutting down that tree, knowing it would upset a great many people, such a callous act, for no gain.
Just makes you wonder how somebody could want to upset so many people. What makes a person like that tick ?

It's a tree, it was pretty and now it's gone. "Burn him at the stake" said the people who cared. The irony was lost on everyone.

I'm in the same boat..... ask me what my first gig is and i will happily tell the world it was Stiff Little Fingers in July 80 aged 17.

However, one December night when i was probably 11 or 12 my parents dragged me and one of my other brothers to some theatre (suspect they couldn't get a baby sitter.....) to see Peters and Lee, with support from Mike & Bernie Winters and a very young The Nolans.
That fucking Peters and Lee hardly had any songs and sang Welcome Home twice.
One of my fondest gig memories was going to see the Tom Robinson Band at the Apollo in 1979 and being lured from the bar by the faint sound of the support band. That band turned out to be a then unknown outfit called Stiff Little Fingers who were yet to release their ground-breaking first album. And they were fucking brilliant!
Otherwise, I'm ashamed to admit that my very first gig experience was a dreadful folk rock band by the name of Caravan at the age of 13. In my defence, I was persuaded to go by a mate whose dad was a fan and I remember hating it even then.

Growing up, I used to hang out with the lad next door and went to knock on one night to see if he was around. His dad answered the door and said he'd been sent to his room early for a bad school report. They had a Chinese laid out on the table and invited me in, so I said I had a good report and they let me in for Chinese. I'd already had dinner and hadn't even had a school report.
