Postal votes in the UK (During covid and beyond)

I shall vote the way I’ve always voted; I’ll walk to the polling booth, get the ballot paper from the clerk, put my cross against whichever name I choose, put said ballot paper in the locked box and then walk home again!
Only if someone brings in a law to say I have to use a postal vote will I take what, for me, would be the lazy way.
Plus I would fight beforehand against any such law!

I think this is the first time I’ve posted in the politics sub forum but I feel very strongly about this. :-) Sorry.
So you've never had the excitement of getting the ballot paper in the post, opening the envelope, sorting out the A and B envelopes, putting your cross against whichever name you choose (straight away or after a few days thinking about it), and either popping the envelope in the post or walking to the polling station on the day (any polling station in the city), handing in the envelope then walking home again.

And knowing that people who vote that way are far more likely to vote. It's late or I'd tell you my favourite story of the lady who thought like you but didn't in the end vote.

You would fight against any such law that made it easier for people to vote? Or do you mean you would fight against the law if it meant people could only vote by post, even in a one off scenario like a global pandemic?

If it meant people could only vote by post. In a pandemic obviously that would be a one off and I would want what was safest for everybody.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I don't think it'll ever be changed to only postal votes, they'll most likely be options open to people to choose whichever is more convenient for them.

Welcome to the Politics forum.

I must say EB of all the things in the world to chose to fight, postal votes would be way way down the list of things i would fight against. It would be probably be on par with the government attempting to legalise mandatory eating of boiled eggs.

Each to there own though and all opinions are valid.

We should be able to register to vote and choose whether to be sent a physical polling card or an email polling link.

When you vote online you could get an email receipt with confirmation of your vote.

It’s the 2020s, it’s hard to understand how this isn’t already happening.

Having just completed my census form on line I fail to understand how its acceptable and safe to provide all that personal information over the internet but advising how you wish to vote is susceptible to ''fraud''

*lol* Thank you. I guess my ‘protesting’, strong opinion days are mostly past. I was involved in a lot of them when I was younger. I was a steward for the rally in Mcr for the Poll Tax, Miners, Teachers (obviously), GCHQ in Cheltenham. So I’ve passed the mantle on to the younger generation! :-)
Just now and then I poke my nose in. I’m one of those people who actively encourage people to vote, especially women. My philosophy? I don’t care who you vote for just make sure you vote.

I probably won’t post on any other politics subject very often. :-)
