Praise for Pep & City

I’ve had enough of the negativity from the media and inaccuracies too. I’ve written a 2000 word piece (free to read so you may as well look) on competitiveness and praise for Pep & City. much of it is based on a programme article I wrote but hopefully most Blues will enjoy it or use parts of it when being challenged by rivals. Thanks:

Superb piece Gary

Worth remembering too that in only the last 3 complete seasons we've had 2/3rds the number of title winners they had in the decade of the 2000s and half what we had in the 80s and 90s decades too! But it's less competitive now they tell us.

Obviously stats can be twisted lots of ways but facts are facts.

Very telling that from 1990 - 2000, there were 5 different winners, in 20 odd years.

Between 2010 - 2020 there have been 5!

It's clear to any sensible person that the new found wealth of Chelsea and latterly ourselves stopped a redshirt tsunami. We've raised standards, made the league more competitive and are hopefully inspiring new generations in coaching. What lasting effects did either of of the two red ugly sisters on the way the game is played?

It should be noted that Chelsea started from a much stronger position, in terms of already having won trophies, European places, etc. We've had to play catch up and learn to compete. If you compare the number of seasons we've been in Europe to unitd, littlepool or Madrid, we're still finding our way. Hopefully to Istanbul....

Clearly, we're the ones ruining football!!

You‘re right about playing catch up. Sometimes I wish we could do a form of depreciation on our spending that averages it out over the previous decades when we under spent and the club was run in to the ground by Swales & his supporting directors.

Hopefully, tonight will see us take another step forward. I’m already a bit giddy for tonight:

We got Haaland, Akanji and Alvarez for less than arsenal paid us for 2 squad players who were coming into the last year of their contract. On top of that we got £50m for Raheem who was also coming into the last year of his contract. In top of that we got around £30?m for the sake of academy players, and moved out a player whose heart wasn’t in it this season (Cancelo).

Genius manager and club

Great read as always Gary, your knowledge of City is brilliant. Talking of brilliant, Pep probably needs a new word for what he has brought to this club.

This season has been unbelievable. He moved Sterling, Zinch and Jesus on, got a World Cup winner, a brilliant defender and the best striker in the world here, and made a profit of £50m in the process. And let’s be clear, without Pep here then Erling would be elsewhere.

He has destroyed a couple of myths too. Firstly the shit about Pep over thinking - in that definition he “over thinks” every day, every game, it’s what geniuses do - when it goes right it’s fine, when we lose a game then “over thinking” becomes a stick ladled with hindsight to beat him with, and still gets used years after the event. The man is Pure Genius.

Secondly, week after week we had loads of posters telling us how we fucked it up by selling Zinchenko and Jesus to arsenal. The fact is they were both into the last year of their contract, both wanted to move on for more regular football, and we got Haaland, Alvarez and Akanji for their money - we won that deal big time; both great lads but Jesus has 10 goals, Zinch proved he is a poor defender once arsenal got put under pressure.

Given how many years Pep has worked for us, the intensity he works with, I can’t believe he keeps doing it year after year. He also managed to move Cancelo on, one of our best players last season but seemingly a poor influence in the dressing room because Pep knew he could make a world class left back out of Nathan Ake - yet more “over thinking”!

Pep I fucking love you, you over thinking bald fraud xxx
The only real overthinking Pep can be accused of is in the Chavs CL Final....and it cost us our first trophy !!

Excellent read, we all know that Media spout that football isn't competitive anymore cos their beloved Rags, Dippers, and Gooners aren't winning anything.
