Pre Match Thread: Chelsea vs City

We have been abysmal for the past few games, if we are to go to stamford bridge with that sort of form, deary me we will be there for the taking. Just hope that our boys will have that fighting spirit back and approach this game with a positive attitude. Come on city..what a way to turn around a patchy start to the second half of season with a win against Chelsea.

It is very clear that we will be in a much better position if we did better in set pieces. This is obvious and as I clearly stated earlier, we need to do it in both sides of the pitch i.e both offensively and defensively. Every team in the world wants to keep a clean sheet but I hope the set piece issue has been addressed as it will be very important against a team like Chelsea who is very dangerous from set pieces, with the likes of Terry and Ivanovic.

We have to start keeping clean sheets simple as , today would be a good start.

No too worried about set pieces as long as they don't score any from them.

And that is precisely the point I am making- we have been conceding too easy goals from set pieces and not capitalizing on the other end and this is a concern for this game. If we can deal with that then the chances of getting the three points will be greater.

There are many factors that dictate two bottom lines in football- Scoring and Conceding and if these factors are compromised in any way, then the likelihood of scoring ...or not conceding and ultimately winning the game is also affected. Defending properly from set pieces and being more productive from free kicks and corners will contribute to the bottom lines of not scoring or conceding.

If you don't see that we have had problems from set pieces then I cannot help you with that but as I said, doing better in that aspect of the game will increase our chances of getting the win today.

We have had problems defending from set pieces especially in the league of late.

I think we have scored one goal from a corner this season and that is not a good return either especially given the number we get in a game.

Of course what you are saying is the case but its stating the obvious but I repeat as long as we don't concede from set pieces or concede at all is the key to our season.

We don't have many 0-0's in us under MP.

I do not entirely agree that it is stating the obvious although it is really difficult to miss since it has been happening for a while now. What it is incredibly more obvious is stating that if we don't know concede, then we can get a result.

I am sure Pellegrini has been working on that and you may say that the absence of Kompany for a while played a role although he was not that commanding in the previous game. We could put that down perhaps to lack of match fitness and hopefully with a more consistent backline and NO!!! injuries going forward, then we can get back to being good in that aspect of the game.

Boyata got in the end of some balls from corner in the last match but I am not sure he will be too involved. We do know that Kompany can really attack that ball from corners and Dimechelis has always been good in that aspect throughout his career, even scored at the Emirates earlier this season. Mangala (at least on FIFA) is supposed to be a dominant force in the air but it has not transpired that way.

I guess it takes meticulous and a conscious effort from management to address this issue because it has been our strength over the past few seasons and we need to get back to being organised in the box and dominating the ball in the air.
