Premier League clubs vote against 5 subs per match in 20/21

Good for us, but can't help think it's a bit unfair on those without the same resources to build as strong a squad.

Fuck em.

If any premier league fan whines about this tell them they should be spending their money like Atalanta or Sheffield United, who have crafted excellent sides for a fraction of Watford, Burnley, West Ham etc.

All 20 Premier League sides are in the 30 richest clubs in the world. They can afford a good squad.

5 substitute rule has been given the green light by the IFAB.



This doesn't mean that the Premier League have to implement this rule, although I think they will.


I can see the reasoning for it:
- Pretty much no break between this season and next season.
- Internationals/Nations League still in place during domestic breaks next season.
- Euro 2021 follows next season immediately.
- Only a short break between Euro 2021 and 21/22 season.
- Mid-season World Cup will delay the finish 21/22 season.
- Not much break between 21/22 season and 22/23 season.
Safe to say it's going to be almost non-stop for 2-3 years.

I can see why clubs with small squads won't want it. A club like us will massively benefit from it, huge squad to make a difference and can keep top players happier.

I think they have to keep the rule of doing it over 3 substitute stoppages though or teams will time-waste and take the piss with it.

It doesn’t surprise me that it has been extended to next season. As yo said, there is hardly any break between this term and next..

It wouldn’t surprise me if it were to be implemented permanently, either.

Some owners prefer to invest in the team/squad, others in dividends/bonuses to themselves.

liverpool also bomb out of every competition apart from the 1 they focus on, so they will benefit hugely from everyone else having congested fixture lists across 4 or 5 comps.

All clubs have the same restriction on squad size. It comes down to who has the best strength in depth and best 2nd 11.
Clearly not Liverpool by this reaction.

Should be 3 subs and that’s it, having it 5 you might as well sod it and have rolling subs. Who remembers the good old days of two subs and that was it?

5 subs is much better, it is more flexible to the match, it promotes youth development and player wellbeing.

I'd be happy for it to be 3 + 2 U21s.

Would love for him to eloquently explain why it’s nonsense. Why is 3 fine but 5 is nonsense? At least have the balls to admit your reasons for saying that is exclusively because Liverpool don’t have a good squad. The only reason to oppose it is because it doesn’t suit his team. He’ll also no doubt say players play too many games at the start of next season when players are visibly fucked before Christmas and don’t get enough rest followed by claiming there’s not enough opportunities for kids. Somebody needs to go to town on this kid spitting mouth piece
