Ok next person that tells me Pickford is great with his feet gets a fork in the.eye, its a myth that needs busting.
Keeper distribution can be measured two ways, the same as any outfielder's passing. How well they can hit a pass and how well they can do it under pressure.
Pickford is genuinely great in the first regard, he can hit some real long range pinpoint passes excellently.
The thing is, like with outfielders, the second measure is way more important than people realise. And with keepers it's completely ignored.
What makes Ederson, Ter Stegen, Neuer and the like so good is that second part. 3 man press, perfect dinked pass over all their heads onto the toes of the winger. Or a casual ball through the middle of them to the DM. They have the composure of elite midfielders. Even Bravo showed that side of his game that we haven't seen his Barcelona days against Chelsea last week.
Pickford fails hard here though. Zero composure under pressure. It's like when people see Hart doing some cute passes and dinks under no pressure and they say he was alright. It doesn't really matter because he wasn't under pressure.
But Pickford's distribution is far better than Hart's. And far better than most of the shit keeper's come up with.
He'd be far better than most under Pep's stewardship, albeit not the level we've become used to with Ederson obviously.
