A few years ago, I reckoned up the best attendances of the season from all the Manchester conurbation clubs in the top ten tiers of English football.

All the non-City+United clubs’ best attendances came to over 75,000.
That plus City’s 53,000 and the Rags’ 73,000 comes to over 200,000.

No city outside London has as many clubs or as many clubs per head of population in their conurbation as Manchester.

I know well over 20 lads who used to be City ST holders who don’t go anymore and most don’t go and watch other local clubs but would go to City if they could afford it.

I'm assuming that those expressing admiration for the L***s fans didn't experience the, er, exhilaration of a trip to the land that time forgot in the 70s or 80s.

Really rough place to go. However, yes, I did experience exhilaration: having seen us beaten by them for years through the seventies, 7th January 1978. FA Cup — 2-1 to us.

Absolutely, there's a shit load who don't go anymore. I'm one of them myself. Called it a day after the 3-2 Villa game after going since 1987. Too many things annoying me and so fucked it off. And I don't miss it. Happy to be an armchair fan now and still watch every match. Maybe I'll return later in life.
My missus gave her season ticket up at the swamp too.
