Wanted to make certain Raya wasn’t coming, but retreating, meaning the player was then through on goal with an obvious goal scoring opportunity.

Surely he gives a red then and if he's mistaken then VAR will advise to go look at the monitor? I mean Raya was trotting back anyway to make sure he wasn't lobbed because he knew he wasn't getting to the ball first by a country mile.

I think Refs find it MUCH easier to give the lesser penalty and be shown evidence that the harsher penalty is warranted. Oliver is the King of this!
