Premier League Games 21/22 December 2024

It’s because these days we have possession but only play horizontally. Passing sideways, in front of the opposition won’t tire any fucker out. We used to move it horizontally and vertically and that’s why teams were always fucked after 60 mins against us.
In fairness, lots of older players have turned to walking football when they get too old to play proper football...

If they lost their best player - that player being the best in the world - and had the injuries we had, plus playing those clearly not match fit, then they would be struggling too.
Not disagreeing about injuries, but that's a separate issue.

My point was about the hunger and desire to sprint towards a goalscoring opportunity knowing that there's only a 1 in 10 chance that a rebound might fall in your direction

Liverpool are brilliant at it, but apart from Foden (in top form) and Gundogan (two years ago) our sprinting is nonexistent

And another thing that people forget is that it takes players a season to fit into a Pep team. Any January signings aren't suddenly going to catapult us up the table.
True in isolation, but we have issues that are beyond the style. Too many unfit players, old, slow and lightweight. A couple of players with energy and athleticism elevates this team massively. Won't be a great Pep team over night, but we will be way more competent and functional over night and might win enough games to clinch 4th.

Gundogan for example is approaching Casemiro/Demichelis levels of "please just retire", and yet we are forced to start him in the most important position on the pitch every game. Awful to see, he is a legend and doesn't deserve to go out like this
