The Leicester City and this result are the true measure of this United team. It's amazing how media people (not all of them rags) who are paid to know something about the game got sucked in to talking about ‘European nights like these’ and suchlike guff after the game against Atalanta. Anybody who follows Italian football even casually knows that Atalanta are a very weird, unpredictable team, capable of some very good football, and also capable of having the stuffing knocked out of them in the twinkling of an eye. It was always going to be the case that Liverpool were made of sterner stuff.
So are we. If we're only half as clinical as Liverpool, we'll turn these over, and by a comfortable margin when we go there. We will then have played everyone away who was supposed to be a threat to us. United I never saw as a credible threat. Liverpool and Chelsea I do. And we didn't do so shabbily against them.
