Best part of 50 years on and I'm still embarrassed to admit that I moaned like fuck for a pair of those. My Dad had not long passed and we were pretty skint, my Mum, God Bless her, bought me a pair of white boots from Timpsons. Needless to say, as Pardoe's obvious replacement at left back, I wasn't overly impressed at the prospect of playing in a pair of Timpson's finest and acted like a little shit!
