Premier League Games 5/6/7 November

Salah had a few impressive-looking dribbles inside the box again, but I wonder if he's helped by his reputation for diving and getting penalties for the slightest touch. He's certainly a good dribbler of the ball, but defenders can't risk sticking a foot in, like they can against Sterling or Mahrez (for example), which makes it a lot easier for him.
As you say, he's got very good close control, but it's the fact that as soon as he hits the deck, for whatever reason, the refs invariably GIVE IT as a pen, that scares defenders into backing off IMO.

It's ALL about the refs and their eagerness to give him almost every foul in a dangerous area that he asks for.

Today was a prime example. Salah finds himself stuck between a couple of defenders who look favourite to win it off him, so he sticks it past one of them and, after no contact whatsoever, leaps off the ground and feigns contact. Foul given.

He's almost as embarrassing as that rat-faced-twat at trafford. Decent player, but absolutely zero shame in his "attempts" at conning a decision out of the refs EVERY game.

If they started waving away Salah's theatrical bullshit (as they do for almost all of our attackers - Foden and Grealish are the ones who are getting the "no foul, play on" treatment the most in our team at the moment) on a regular basis I'm sure defenders would be more confident about attempting to put a tackle in.

But they won't (the refs) so they don't (the defenders)

The bloke's a wanker, a talented wanker, but still a wanker.

If Carragher said the word dominating the microphone would be covered in phlegm.
I think l will skip breakfast this morning.
But l suppose it's better all over a mike than a young girl.

Don't get why Sterling not having renewed his contract gets mentioned so often but Salah's runs out on same day and is never mentioned.

Van Dijk is a top class defender, said at the time we should have been all in for him, and haven't changed my mind. Pep would have made him even better. Having said that, I'm OK with what we currently have in 4 (yes 4) top class centre backs....once Eric gets his head back on straight that is.

PS great weekend, enjoyed the dippers result almost as much as I enjoyed us schooling the rags

PPS, agree about VD's barnet though
He's a great defender, but not a great footballer, which is what we require and what we've got. He's a big, chest beating blocker and talisman for them admittedly, but so what.

Just watched the Brighton/Barcodes game.

How much was Voldemort paid to miss the penalty?

Another suspicious result involving the seagulls.

Absolutely correct. Have written similar comments myself, a relatively recent one was on their match vs Burnley at home last season (which they lost by the way), watching how cautious Burnley defenders were when marking him in their box.

As you say, it has nothing to do with his ability (which is world class). Yet intangibles such as this can have a major influence in a game, determining reactions and attitudes of players. You will never hear about this in the media, his reputation (as well as Mane's) remains intact, very well protected (with Sterling it's the exact opposite). But you will hear about Fernadinho's "tactical fouls", for example, again and again and again. So will the referees...

The fact is, by creating an atmosphere of fear, defenders seem weak facing him, he seems invincible, Liverpool gain an advantage. The kind of advantage City will never get. On the contrary, City will be lucky to even get clear penalties, as shown again at OT 3 days ago...
