So when they have finished parading our trophy round some country that hardly gives a monkeys about our beautiful sport what will happen to it when it gets back to the UK? Any plans?

Not even worth a reply. Apart from saying it's not worth a reply.

Re: Premier League Trophy - New York on Wednesday 6th June!!!!

Very mixed feelings personally about how many new plastic supporters I want to see here in the US or in Asia, where I lived for a decade.

However, just as a sign of our growing recognition, I find when I wear my home top with Silva on the back around Silicon Valley now as I do most Sundays, I get far more recognition from the average punter now than I did even 6 months ago. My waiter for brunch yesterday wanted to talk about City and Silva's chances at Euro 2012 for 5 minutes while I was trying to order my coffee and eggs.

I received my World Soccer Shop catalog in the mail last Friday and on the EPL merchandise page, City had 6 products featured and were highlighted at the top of the page, while the Rags were relegated to the bottom with 4 and Fulham, Newcastle, Tottenham, and Chelsea with 1 each in between. Never seen us have more than a passing mention in this kind of catalog.

Also just saw a Puma advert on ESPN Sports Center featuring Usain Bolt, Ricky Fowler, Fernando Alonso, some cricketer I've never heard of, and our very own Sergio Aguerro, who was featured in a non-labelled but sky-blue kit. Again, a first to see anyone but Rooney, Beckham, or Messi featured in a prominent campaign state-side.

Finally, my wife's cousin, who is from Korea and lives in NY/NJ, is/was a rag that provided me somebody to regularly text demeaning banter to this campaign. He now says that when Park Jisung leaves the club, he will switch to somebody else, maybe City. My daughter thinks thats great that he will join the bandwagon, but I told her that we don't want someone that fickle and disloyal.

Fairly typical of them. Once a Rag, always a Rag, in my book.

I've said it before, football is about to go 'massive' in the US and we couldn't have timed it better.

It goes with the territory. I have a friend in Devon and when Blackburn won the league, half the kids in the area were wearing Rovers tops! A couple of season's ago, it was Chelsea / manure tops. His own nephew switched from manure to Chelsea aged 12 and he's still a Chelsea fan now aged 19!

It's a sign of our success - isn't that what we all want? A successful team? So may as well embrace the 'plastics' than shun them. They'll probably spend more buying City stuff than locals!!

My step lads school, in the Boston area, when I pick him up, I've 'spotted' 3 rag shirts.... look forward to the day a Blue shirt walks out of the door.

It seems to be a fairly common opinion from our transatlantic cousins that soccerball is about to explode. Despite personal misgivings I'll accept the judgement of those over there that they're more likely to be right than me so why is it suddenly about to become big?

I have to agree with you, I've only been here what, 8 months or so and been to a handful of New England Revolution games and can't see it myself. Crowds of 10,000 or so, in a fantastic stadium in the middle of nowhere 30 - 35 miles from Boston. Games barely get 6 lines in the local paper and never on the news. It is simply the big 4 teams / sports - Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Celtics. Nothing else.

Or does GDM mean The Premier League is going to explode over here? That I can agree with as more bars are showing it and more people getting Fox Soccer channels.

Well in Bristol...............think we have captured the young audience already.
Working at my sisters house last week, I heard the kids next door playing football, and picking teams. Names like Yaya, Hart, Augero, and Silva were chosen..................

It does go with the territory.

Frankly, after decades of being the only City supporter at the pub, it will be deeeeeeecent to see some more Blues in these parts. I'd rather be celebrating with friends than rubbing their arrogant rag noses in it, which was fun for a bit....

Most popular teams around here, judging by tops, are Pumas, Barca, and a whole load of Central/South American teams advertised in vinyl decal in the rear window of the largest dually trucks you ever saw.

United are going down and City's push in the US market couldn't be more fortuitous or well planned. I doubt MLS will explode, but I do believe that the growing exposure to international leagues will increase clubs revenue. ESPN getting coverage of SERIE A and the Premiership in @92 is what got me hooked. So, twenty years later, am I a plastic?

This. I personally see more and more awareness and interest in the excitement of the Premier League among Americans. Outside of the Pacific Northwest and Canada, I don't think any MLS teams have an atmosphere anywhere approaching that in England. I've watched City and other matches at pubs all around the country during my business travels and do find a growing but still niche following for English soccer.
