Premiership>Champions League

I'd take the EPL before it. said it at the beginning of the season, and i haven't changed my mind.

I honestly didn't expect to progress, so if we don't then i'm not to bothered.

Appreciate where we are and how far we've come.

I can live waiting till October 2012 for the champions league again.

what i can't live with is playing 38 games in a ELP, and slipping up because of distractions.

We still might get through, if we don't we don't.

the good times are coming.
I agree and not even for a second have i thought we'd win the CL this season. However, we didn't put out our strongest side last night and we lost and now we're pretty much out. Whereas we can lose at Anfield on Sunday and still have 25 games to rectify that one defeat 13.

Khaldoon said that himself and Mancini knows it...

the PL is our main target, the priority goes there.

Had this discussion in the pub last night with some United fans and even they agreed with me.

Premiership comes first. Everytime. The Champions league is nothing but a cash cow for UEFA and is a pale imitation of the competition in it's heyday i.e the 70's and 80's.

I would never want us to sacrifice the league for it. Ever.

I hate the music, i hate the way the front rows have to be given over to advertising, i hate the entrance on the pitch through that stupid archway and i hate the 1 ref and 4 linos.

LOL,
What about alcohol bans?

All I expected from the CL was to get out of the group stages, we're not likely to make that but no biggie really. That was a real "group of death" for our first ever CL entry and if Villareal hadn't been so piss-poor it could have been even worse.

Key thing now is compete for the PL title and come back stronger next year.

One thing it has proved, you can't play your backups against any team other than the real no-hopers like Otil tractor company and the like.

Sorry but the CL is much more important than the Premiership. We have just added a lot more pressure on ourselves with this result and I dont think it will help us in the league.

Im sorry but no. We can win the league. IMO to win the champs league will be a huge task this season, we have never played Real/Inter/Barca/Milan with them at full strength.

Therefore the prem is definately more important.

We all want to win the PL as a priority over the CL at the moment. I don't think anyone would argue with that. But the problem is that it's regular progression to the latter stages of the CL (at least quarters but more importantly semis) that will bring in the big money and that's the single most important issue for the foreseeable future.

The difference between 1st and 3rd in the PL is less than £2m. The difference between going out at the group stage and getting to the semi on a regular basis is about £30+m.

The Premiership is more important, I would like to think we can win the CL when we are champions of England.

For me I would go back to the European Cup where only the champions take part.

I dont know how many countries there are in Europe., lets say there are 20.

I would do 2 groups of 10 where they play each other once.

The top 4 to qualify from each group, then knockout.

Bring back UEFA CUP on straight knockout and same for the Cup Winners cup.

Now we could be in Thursday cup which will be an anti climax for the fans as well as the team.

Saying all that we are not out and I am still excited about the Bayern game as the atmosphere will be fantastic if we hear Villareal take the lead or they are hanging on for NIL, NIL in the last ten minutes and we are winning 1 v 0.

Lets make sure its a sell out, it could be a great night.

We were never going to get to the semis this year but yes in future years it will be much more important.
This brings me to my second point.
To achieve long term success in the latter stages of the CL, I believe that Bob has made the conscious decision to go for a long term strategy. Last night for instance we could have played 4-5-1 second half, parked the bus and probably got the draw. In the short term this might have meant progression to the KO stages.
To attain longer term success I believe that it is incumbent on so called "footballing" teams to impose "their" game every time they take the field á la Barca/Madrid. Bob has decided to stick with this philosophy imo knowing short term we lack the experience and nous, and that faking it into the latter stages would be a cop out and damage the longer term objectives.
United adopted a very conservative approach last season and scraped through to the final. Look at them now in Europe. The best scum sides regularly took it to the opposition because they had the ability coupled with the experience and belief they could impose themselves not just in one CL campaign but several.
This is why today I feel less concerned about the implications of last nights result
Onwards and upwards fellow blues!!
