Premium bonds

Never won anything, but i just use it as a little savings account really. I'm not great with money, whatever comes in i'll spend, so i just have a direct debit set up for £200 a month just after payday and if the boiler goes or there's an issue with the car or i find myself short at least there's a little bit of rainy day money there.

£125 win in January
Started Jan 2025 with £10,400 and now standing at £11,325 giving a "profit" of £925 or 8.9%
I'd settle for that every year
The equivalent in 2024 was £375 or 3.7%

You could have the maximum number of Premium Bonds for fifty years and win nothing, or you could have the minimum number and win the jackpot in the first week. Basically it is like the lottery, except you don’t lose the outlay quite so quickly. I have had 50 since the early 1960s and never won anything at all.

And to prove the point, from NS&I about 2025:
One £1 million jackpot winner from Cleveland won with a holding of just £100. This is the second lowest holding ever to win the jackpot, the lowest was £17 in July 2004.
One of December’s jackpot winners only purchased their winning Bond in February this year.
Amongst this year’s winners was an Outer London Bond holder who won a whopping £100,000 in March 2025 with a holding of only £14. They purchased their winning Bond in1977

If you have the max amount of £50k you will win an average of 27 prizes a year.

Min amount now you can buy in for at £25, would be one prize on average every 74 years.

Obviously it is randomly drawn, but incredibly massively weighted.
