Premium bonds

£50 for me this month . £200 this year on max holding . Pretty dire .

I know everyone has different circumstances, but looking at the posts, this seems a poor investment.
You lot must have all maxed out your isa allowances, etc, retired and taking your private pensions and have money lying around doing nothing.
I'm no expert but this is the last place I'd put my money in.
Each to there own though what do I know.

The returns were better a couple of years ago. Think a lot of holders will look for alternatives as things are now.,

Seems like everyone is getting shit returns.
The average on the max £50k is £150 paid out, reducing to £137.5 from next month, and can't really be judged over a few months.

Even the 3.3% it is falling too is 5.5% for someone who has filled their ISA and gone over their £500 if a 40% tax payer. I am getting letters for 26/27 tax year changing my code or money in the bank in 2023/24, and they tax much larger chunk from your allowance than you actually owe making assumptions you will earn the same again or more in interest. So i can see the attraction if you have a spare £20k to £50k and your ISA is full.

Going to be worse from next month.

From April's draw, however, the prize fund rate will drop from 3.6% to 3.3%. As a result, there are expected to be 240,037 fewer prizes up for grabs. It's the first time the prize fund rate has been cut since August 2025.

Mate of mine sold his house, popped £50k in premium bonds when interest rates were shit and within 3 months had won £5k! Took the money out and bought another house. Jammy bastard.
That's a better investment than the out-laws made. She won £25k, spent it putting solar panels on the roof (she in her 70s, him 80s at the time) then a year later sold up and moved to be nearer their son? Pair of fucking idiots.

I realise it’s a lottery but with £75 last month and £25 this month from a combined £100k stake we have to find another investment…

Slightly disappointing is an understatement
