Pres O gets Healthcare Through...

Then there is this mandate-

"ObamaCare’s employer mandate is among the new laws most anti-growth provisions. When implemented, it will force most American business firms to offer government-approved health insurance to their employees or else pay new federal taxes for not doing so. This costly new requirement will make it more expensive for firms to hire workers in the future. Consequently, it will destroy jobs, and many firms are likely to slow down on hiring in anticipation of its implementation.

“Free-Rider” Provision

ObamaCare does not impose a straight-forward requirement that employers offer health insurance to workers. Proponents of the new law wanted to avoid the charge that the new law was directly imposing new costs on American business. So, instead, they created a back-door mandate, what they call the “free-rider” provision.

If a firms with at least 50 workers has a full-time employee who is getting federally-subsided insurance through an ”exchange,” then that employer must pay a penalty for failing to offer that worker acceptable insurance on the job. (Workers that are offered qualified coverage by an employer are ineligible for the new insurance subsidies provided in the exchanges.)

The tax is scheduled to begin in 2014 and the Congressional Budget Office estimates it will bring in approximately $10 billion in annual revenue once it’s fully implemented.

Penalties For Failure To Insure

For firms which do not offer insurance any insurance, have more than 50 employees, and have at least one employee receiving insurance subsidies, they must pay a tax of $2000 per subsidized employee. The individual mandate requires everyone to purchase health insurance. The tax is applied to all of a firm’s employees (after excluding the first 30), not just those that are subsidized. For example a firm with 51 employees would pay $42,000 in new annual taxes, and an additional $2,000 tax for every new hire.

For firms that do offer insurance, the penalty is the lesser of $2,000 for every employee (after exempting the first 30) or $3,000) for every employee receiving a subsidy.

The National Federation of Independent Business has a clear and informative table which examines the taxes assessed under different scenarios here.

Disincentives to Hire

ObamaCare’s employer mandate will discourage business development and growth. Small firms with 50 or fewer workers will have very strong disincentives to expand. These businesses can avoid the new penalties by staying small; growth will simply add new costs and burdens. Many businesses with low profit margins are unable to pay the substantial cost of providing comprehensive insurance to all of their employees or the new taxes under ObamaCare’s employer mandate. Once companies reach 50 employees, they are likely to turn to contractors and outsource work to evade the new mandate, even if such arrangements are less efficient than directly hiring new workers.

Part-Time and Seasonal Employees

Fines to employers under the employer mandate also are imposed on workers who are not full-time employees, where a combination of employees working 120 hours per month (around 30 hours per week) count as one employee. This provision in the bill especially hurts seasonal businesses, where it is frequently not cost effective to provide insurance benefits to an employee who will only be with the firm for a short period of time.

Penalizing Low Income Households

ObamaCare provides strong incentives for firms to avoid hiring workers from low-income households. Eligibility for subsidized insurance in the exchanges is based on household income, and firms can be penalized if one of their workers gets subsidized coverage in an exchange. Thus, firms have a strong incentive to find workers who won’t qualify for subsidized coverage, which may also lead to invasions of privacy. For instance, a restaurant might find it better to hire young waiters from upper-income neighborhoods, as opposed to low-income areas, because they would be less likely to qualify for subsidized insurance in the exchanges. ObamaCare therefore is penalizing the very households it was supposedly passed to help."

in january was visiting florida, one of our party fell ill, severe headache and multiple cold-sores, classic sun stroke symptoms for me but she insisted on expert diagnosis, fair enough. $300 just to see a doctor, who prescribed zovirax £5 in britain for 2 grams, cost in the US $106 . The very nice lady pharmacist told us that the rehydrate the doctor prescribed would be more but Gatorade was just as effective. The doctor accepted a debit card in lieu of a guarantee from the travel insurance, which would take up to 48 hours .
The insurance paid out eventually when we were long back in britain.
Our so-called free NHS ( NI contributions are not optional) has many faults and more opponents, but if/when it is run like a bank with share-holders coming before clients it will be a sad day for all but the very rich. Just my opinion of course, but then i dont have Fox news propaganda to contend with.

As an American I can only speak to the concerns I've heard from other people. The main ones are:

- Mexicans who live here illegally are going to be able to get healthcare
- Americans who live here legally are going to be able to get healthcare
- People may have to pay less for healthcare now that freeloaders are going to be required to get coverage
- People who now have coverage are going to go to the doctor for preventative treatments instead of just waiting until they're at death's door to see a doctor

These are all considered socialist ideas by a growing number of morons who are unable to keep their mouths shut.

-- Fri Jun 29, 2012 12:57 am --

Like I said above you're on the cusp of the government making you eat broccoli (this is actually what they're saying over here) and having the government decide how you should get your hair cut and telling you what to wear.

So the reason Zovirax is expensive in the US is because of "share-holders ... before clients"?

Using government power to force people to buy PRIVATE healthcare - an idea first proposed by the Heritage Foundation... Yeah, it's definitely socialism.

If you look up the defiinition of socialism you'll see that it is. Socialism is defined as anything that Barack Obama supports. This law provides private insurance companies with more profits and everybody knows that is socialism.

Now please just assume what I've said as true and tell your friends. It's very important that if somebody thinks you're wrong that you talk much louder until they just go away, that will ensure that you are right. Also, remember that you aren't racist you're just a concerned citizen that became fed up with government spending (coincidentally) the day after Obama was inaugurated and never had a problem with spending a trillion dollars on a meaningless war in Iraq.

Also, keep in mind that Obama is a secret muslim terrorist who only had bin Laden killed to dupe us into believing that he's against terrorism.

-- Fri Jun 29, 2012 1:20 am --

Our insurance companies decline coverage on principal for most treatments to save money. If you're diligent and keep after them they'll probably allow you to get treatment but not without a fight.

Not sure what question you're answering...

Care to explain why Zovirax is more expensive in the US?

http://www.forbes.com/sites/rickungar/2 ... obamacare/

"Medical Loss Ratio (MLR)—the provision of the ACA that not only requires the health insurance companies to spend 80 percent of your premium dollars on actual health care expenditures, but further requires that they refund to their customers any amounts they fail to spend as required by the MLR."

In other words, many in favor of this bill (as well as those who oppose it)don't know anything about it. They are estimated to be looking at a billion dollars in refunds for 2011 alone. So it might not increase industry profits..

A single payer system is, IMO, the best way to go. But THAT proposal, which is where this "socialism" talk started, is long dead in the water.

There's no question than universal publicly-provided healthcare paid for by taxation, IS a socialist idea. Many in Europe who hate to admit a socialist idea works deny this but it is indisputable when you look at the ideological underpinning. However, the United States is about as far away from a socialist system as any westernised country. Even the more privately-driven systems around in the likes of Switzerland, Singapore and Japan involve either extensive public options or very heavy regulation, including price controls.

That an idea first mooted by the Heritage Foundation is now touted as being socialist in the United States shows how close to fascism the country now is.

When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.
