Very happy with this. Hilarious how loads of Americans are calling Obama/the Supreme Court communists. If being a proponent of universal healthcare makes me a communist, someone get me a hammer and sickle. Nevertheless, the US healthcare system is still so broken when you compare it to our NHS. I really cannot understand the opposition to this stateside.

It isn't universal health care though. That might explain some of the opposition.

I'm aware it's not, but it's definitely a step in the right direction. America is so behind in terms of healthcare provision. In particular, it was reported that shares in hospitals rose sharply after the announcement. Obviously going to happen, but what I'm sad about is that the hospitals have shares. Healthcare should not be a business, and the reason I said the US healthcare system is so broken is because it's still profit-driven. It shouldn't be. Of course, that doesn't mean I'm totally against private healthcare; after all we have it in this country alongside the NHS, but it shouldn't be the only healthcare provision. We take the NHS for granted, we really do.

I am in total agreement with that! Health care should not be for-profit!

But it is an enormous industry, so very difficult to change.
