I'm no expert. But Medicare is for the older folk and those with disabilities, I believe. Someone should be investigating this for her if she isn't sure what to do. She may be eligible for both.

Are you allowed to sack people for having a disability in the States?

There's no question than universal publicly-provided healthcare paid for by taxation, IS a socialist idea. Many in Europe who hate to admit a socialist idea works deny this but it is indisputable when you look at the ideological underpinning. However, the United States is about as far away from a socialist system as any westernised country. Even the more privately-driven systems around in the likes of Switzerland, Singapore and Japan involve either extensive public options or very heavy regulation, including price controls.

That an idea first mooted by the Heritage Foundation is now touted as being socialist in the United States shows how close to fascism the country now is.

When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.

Prophetic

Interesting article I came across today, thought some of you might be interested in reading this view.

It shows how, even despite Obamacare, the US healthcare system is still very, very broken. I know what might sort it; a state-run health service, free at the point of use and paid for by taxes. But that would be the final straw for the neocons. The US would be comparable to the Soviet Union.

We in this country don't realise how lucky we are to have the NHS.

I can't help but feel that after 19 major surgeries and 21 years of health care, I was definitely born in the right country. There's not a day goes by where I don't think about how lucky I am.

It's for this reason that I find the American labeling of a national healthcare system as 'communist' very irritating and petty. Label it what you will but it's the reason I'm still here.
