Present Day Football, Fans and Any Other Stuff You Hate About It!

The whole pre game "cermony" - introductions, pyrotechnics etc etc......just too American and if you follow America it always leads to a downgrading of something.

VAR - go back to human error. (except for goal line technology)

Players being treated/called superstars...they are human beings who happen to be good at something...plenty of people are good at things (very good) but dont get hailed in the same way)

The overhype of players way too soon

Suspect relationships between governing bodies and top clubs
Ticket prices
Away tickets going to agencies and tourists
Client sports journalism
Light shows
Pitch side mascots
American owners
The constant threat of a European Super League
The emerging threat of stateside games
Noisy PA’s
Soulless stadia
Terrible home atmospheres
Over exuberant referees
VAR
Away kits being worn when there’s no clash
Away colours with no connection to tradition
The game becoming a non-contact sport

Not being able to celebrate a goal until the restart due to VAR.

Feeling like I can't swear at games anymore.

No real ale in the Etihad.
Correct
We used to celebrate EVERY goal at Maine road even when we knew it was a lost cause
We used to swear most of the time at Maine road because the football was shit
And at Maine Road we had real ale (alright we had Greenhalls that could be defined as ale, if you use a bit of imagination)

Excess of TV pundits. Commentator plus 2 co- commentators. Plus ex referee. 4 post match pundits. Endless stats… what the fuck is xG ? The now routine insincere half hugs between players and staff after games. Not forgetting players having socks pulled over the knees. C’mon! What’s that about?

The fact that 'characters' like Frank Worthington would never get near the top game nowadays.

The loss of humour. I can remember Mike Summerbee having a laugh with the crowd. He's be suspended for that now.

The loss of spontaneous attendance. You can't wake up in the morning and decide to go. No, you have to have a ticket and, worse still, it has to be on a fucking phone. And you have to be traceable.

The outrageous cost of football. Even the lower leagues are ludicrously expensive.

Wankers going who have no real attachment to either side, and don't really care about football.

Uber-wankers talking shite on TV and radio. Most of them are biased twats. Or clueless. Or both. I can remember when they had people like Joe Mercer as pundits who actually had a clue.

Overly hostile receptions for opposing team busses.

Pundits who struggle to string a sentence together.

Constant booing of opposition players when in posssession (don't expect this one to be popular).

Plus opposition players (including captains!) overtly trying to put players off before penalties.

While I'm at it, pre-prepared goal celebrations as distinct from McAtee's spontaneous reaction to his non-goal the other day.

Full-backs trying to gain a couple of metres when taking throw-ins rather than take them quickly.

Full-backs who aim for the winger's head - for a flick-on - when (eventually) taking throw-ins.

But the killer for me is VAR.

If I'm honest, as a man who remembers football in the 70's, 80's & 90's, for all the faults, issues, lack of investment, pitches like the Somme etc, I would take it all back in an instant, with two exceptions, the hooligans and the stadiums. I remember watching the Bradford City fire and Hillsborough on the TV too vividly to ever want to see anything like that again. But the rest? the hype, the money/greed, the self-righteousness, exaggerated importance of it all. Nah, not for me.
