President Joe Biden

See, the problem is that the term “CHARACTER MATTERS” doesn’t resonate with the poster in question.

You’re a bright fellow, so I’ll leave it to you to see if you can figure out why.
Hence, the EMPHASIS.

There appear to be about 75 million Americans for whom character doesn’t matter, either.

it’s a sad world we live in, when character falls completely off “The Basics” list for elected office.

Then again, some would say there would only be far less than 100 Senators and who knows how few Congressmen if it was a requirement!

This is who we have become...or, sadly, always were, in a country where money, power and privilege have ALWAYS been considered essential American requirements for success.

There is a reason we hold up the “American Dream” and those who achieve it...They are such a small minority of people, we have to promote the lie as broadly and loudly as possible to allow the siphoning of America’s wealth out the back door to continue!

I don’t think the last two paragraphs are so true, nor do I think they have much to do with why Trump was elected. However, I certainly agree with the rest of the post — especially the idea that for some, politics is service, but for many, many others, it’s about power, prestige and perks.

The US will always turn to the UK as an ally in times of trouble, no difference here with the call to Johnson.
Which is sadly what destroyed the reputation of the greatest PM in my lifetime amongst swathes of the British people. He took the enormous call to stand by the USA under major pressure from them.

What pressure? Blair was a willing participant, falsifying the casus belli. Otherwise he was the best PM in my lifetime (excluding Attlee, and Wilson of course - compare pressure to join the war in Vietnam....). Another thread perhaps.
