President Joe Biden

A fair point but he wasn’t 78 when they first elected him. You could say the same about Kennedy too, but neither of their illnesses were apparent dementia like it could be with Biden.
Unfortunately his loses his train of thought too often and his foes and so called friends alike will take advantage of it.

I suspect his pressers where questions are asked will be kept to a minimum.

More importantly however is what his admin will do in the short term to address the immigration developments the first potential crisis under his admin and it will be interesting to see how the media cover it.

What does tripping up a flight of stairs have to do with dementia?

I think what he does to help 330 million people recover from the pandemic and its economic consequences is a little more important than what he does to prevent a few thousand desperate people from entering the country illegally from Mexico.

When the orange one was still in the game it seemed like a cheap partisan shot to comment on Bidens age/health. Now we are away from the electoral battle is it acceptable to point out that Biden is clearly fucked? Not unusually so, but about as fucked as many of us will be at that age. If he actually lives until the next election I can't see him being in any state to contest it.
I think this is a shame as although his VP might make a great President I suspect she may be too reforming / confrontational to develop a broad consensus and win back 'moderate' republicans.

You can point out what you want but to say he's clearly fucked is just your opinion, presumably based on watching him stumble over some stairs and words. Seems to me he's quietly and competently getting on with the job much to some people's annoyance so they will look for trivia to have a pop at him. I don't think there was ever any chance of him standing again in 2024 anyway so his level of fuckedness now is irrelevant to the next presidency anyway unless he dies in the short term, which unless you believe the bollocks said about him seems not particularly likely.

George w Bush was pickled and still managed 8 years, being president doesn't actually require a lot of speed of thought. Generally these people make well thought out decisions with the help of specialist experts, its only the past 4 years where the president just made it up in the fly.

W was 24 years younger than Biden though when he became President.

On the other hand there's quite a few countries that have had octogenarian leaders in the past so you might be right.

I agree with you on the job he's doing, and yes also aware that his political opponents will delight in every physical / verbal stumble they can find. He clearly is knackered though - ageing doesn't seem to be the same / linear for all and all you have to do is compare footage of him now with 10 years ago to see he's over his own personal cliff-edge. Also, there is of course a large space in time for most of us between being not really capable of stuff and dying which is where he may well still be in 8 yrs time. I don't see him as a great reformer, but rather quietly and gently undoing the worst damage of the previous regime while keeping out of the hysterical witch-hunt side of things - in short, statesmanlike, for which he should be applauded. I think it's possible to acknowledge he's a better option than Trump and at the same time to admit he's clearly knackered. Reminds me a lot of my grandad at that age - just about safe to pay his paper bill and collect his pension, and by no means senile, but not up to wielding a chainsaw either figuratively or literally.

There is that. Reagan was also clearly not up to it in his last term but a lot sharper actually than he was generally credited for when he was first elected.
