President Joe Biden

Pretty sure @Dax777 and @Bonzo Nododo will like this drop!

There was once a story about Hunter Biden's laptop being "Russian disinformation"...

I only dip into the stories about the Mad House sorry White House occasionally but this Hunter Biden stuff is a fascinating Corrupt Elephant in the Room story. The new press Secretary Karine is great stuff. Absolutely hopeless but following the continual lies of that Ginger woman must be a hard act to follow.

The thing that amuses me is that they both consider that their own arguments are so clever and persuasive that the people who won't engage with them are not doing so because they realise they could never win an argument against their superior knowledge and intellect.

The real reason is that most people have long since realised that it's impossible to have a discussion in good faith with either of them because they will ignore substantive points and focus on what they think, or more likely what their prejudices make them believe, the other person means. And in the case of one of them any interaction quickly turns into ridiculous insults from him, whilst at the same time complaining - with no basis in fact - that he is being insulted. Makes this thread more or less a no go zone because of their prevalence on it.

I would have just summed it up as they’re both morons

Biden is a capable administrator. A left-leaning centrist who has been dealt one of the worst set of circumstances imaginable for a ruler: a hugely divided populace whose polarized two-party representation in legislature is primarily aimed at stopping any bill put forth by the other party; recovery from a global pandemic; the ramifications of the information age where US citizens (voters) are able to tune into broadcasts which they believe to be factual (but are not); Russia's invasion of Ukraine; skyrocketing gasoline prices; an uber-right Supreme Court whose decisions will - ironically, have nearly the same effect as insurrection - that is, tossing out popular opinion entirely on issue after issue and instead ensuring that an uber-right leaning legislative agenda is the rule of the land...

2024...

It's way too difficult to predict what transpires. I'm not particularly optimistic though for the reasons cited above.
And in particular this: Trump clearly committed numerous crimes during his tenure in office.

In private live, Trump committed even more: fraud, sexual assault, tax evasion and so on. But in spite of all of this - somewhat because Trump was careful when breaking the law to make a defense possible - but mostly because roughly half of America doesn't care about/believe the crimes he committed.

Which is to say, among most Republicans, moral character in a leader doesn't matter. Truth, in a leader, does not matter. What matters is voting for someone the Fox pundits support... because if Tucker and The Five say it's so... well it must be so.
The US doesn’t have any left leaning politicians.

The Overton window in the US is so far to the right, that what is considered left leaning over the pond would be described as right of centre here.
Fair point. It's a matter of perspective I suppose.

America is - and will be for the next few generations - largely capitalistic.

Within that capitalist framework though, we have social progressives. It's those that we in the USA deem centrist left; we also have politicians against capitalism, actual socialists - whom we in the USA would deem far left.

Clouding the issue in the USA though is science deniers - whackos who ostensibly should be laughed right out office, but who have welcome place now in the Republican party.
