President Joe Biden

The flipside to this is that switching to a national popular vote would force the parties to moderate somewhat. If Republicans can't just fuck off California and New York they would actually have to try to win votes there, and vice versa for Dems in solid red states.

I dispute the notion that it even matters to be honest. If more people live in California they should have more of a say. Representation per person is so ridiculously far out of whack right now, compared to basically any other time in the country's history, that I'd argue it's way more of a threat to legitimacy than anything else at the moment.
The fact that DC and PR pay taxation without representation is kinda ironic given your country’s birth.

Oh, definitely. DC is larger in population than Wyoming and Vermont and in shouting distance of four or five others. Puerto Rico is larger than something like 14 other states also. The only reason they aren't states is obvious.

I note some posters have scoffed at my point from their heads burrowed in the sand, so here have a read:

The Needle Hasn't Shifted Much...

The article is from Feb, so fairly recent. I mean for posters to cite that "only 58M" don't vote is mind boggling, when apparently so much is at stake! What will make them go to the polls, then...?

And do, let me ask as someone can clarify this point, is Tuesday voting written into the constitution or is it tradition...??

Does a party in power have the ability to make certain days a holiday, I dunno, like a Voting Day...?

If the notion above is something that CAN be changed, then the Dems are complicit in this issue being the problem, aren't they? They've been happy enough to carry on with things as they are, but only see fit to complain when they're no longer in power.

They're a joke of a Party.

Fair points. Another is why is the popular vote good enough for effectively every other office in the land. There's as much diversity of interests, topography, economy and social construction in California as there is in the USA.

DC's license plate has the quote "taxation without representation"

Both DC and Puerto Rico would be *solidly* blue. That's a major reason they are not states

100m being nearly twice the real number. If you’re so sure of your point then don’t embellish with hyperbole especially when that increased made up figure is equivalent to the population of Spain.

And yeah, so much is at stake now, so let’s see the turnout in 2020, see if it’s higher than the 2016 record of 63% which it will be which goes to show the opposite of “people are being turned off by politics”.

Whether there's a case for reform I do not know. However, I'll tell you one truth about politics which is the same all over the world. Losers always complain about the system. Everyone knows the rules of the system, so are well prepared for it. If you accept it at the start, you should accept it at the end.

For the future of democracy though, a result must be given on election night. There's no reason it shouldn't be. in this country we have a lot of postal ballots but they never stop a winner being declared. I fear we are heading for a protracted legal battle which will damage democracy.

Apart from many of the ballots not being counted to to the hobbling of the postal service. But that’s democracy eh?
