Trump's Rant Against China Sends Global Markets Reeling

Global stock markets plunged on Friday after Donald Trump accused China of launching an unprecedented wave of export controls on rare earth elements and other key materials, escalating tensions between the world's two largest economies and sparking fears of a global supply chain shock

In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Beijing has begun sending formal letters to governments around the world outlining plans to impose restrictions on the export of rare earths and "virtually anything else they can think of, even if it's not manufactured in China." He described the move as "sinister and hostile," warning that it could "clog the markets" and disrupt industries globally.

"Nobody has ever seen anything like this," Trump wrote. "There is no way that China should be allowed to hold the world ‘captive,' but that seems to have been their plan for quite some time, starting with the ‘magnets' and other elements that they have quietly amassed into somewhat of a monopoly position."

Markets react swiftly

Trump's comments sent shockwaves through financial markets. Global indices dropped. Commodity markets moved violently as well.

Rare earth elements are essential inputs for industries ranging from defense to renewable energy and consumer electronics. China dominates the sector, accounting for more than 80% of global production and refining. Any restrictions would ripple through global supply chains, particularly in sectors dependent on high-performance magnets, batteries, and advanced electronics.

A sudden escalation

Trump emphasized that the move came as a surprise, noting that U.S.–China relations had been "very good" over the past six months. He said he had not spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping and suggested that their planned meeting at the APEC summit in South Korea in two weeks may now be canceled.

"I have always felt that they've been lying in wait, and now, as usual, I have been proven right," Trump wrote. "One of the policies we are calculating at this moment is a massive increase of tariffs on Chinese products coming into the United States. There are many other countermeasures under serious consideration."

Beijing has not yet issued an official statement on the matter, and details of the letters cited by Trump have not been made public. Investors are now bracing for potential retaliatory measures from Washington, including higher tariffs and targeted financial sanctions.

he never deserved it, but not sure this women does either, sure she is a CIA puppet anyway and bankrolled by the US, a far cry from the saint she is portrayed as.

Disgraceful, he ended the war between the dwarves of Nogrod and the Elves of Doriath and he was still ignored. Absolutely disgraceful. I tell you, disgraceful

Nevermind that release the Epstein files

Hearing that bizarre bin laden rant and seeing it being dissected line by line is just so surreal. Put anybody with any kind of power or responsibility, however small, into that same scenario and they'd lose their job instantly coming out with nonsense like that.

Once he's gone, the world will look on at the people who supported him and will mock their stupidity in the same manner as we look at the medieval population believing in witchcraft

Finding out nominations for the Nobel peace prize ended in January, meaning he's been on a self-promoting campaign for literally no reason makes it so much sweeter.

you'd think somebody, somewhere in his team would have done the most basic research into the process before he went all out on this pathetic attempt. Just shows the spectacular level of incompetence he has surrounded himself with.

Oh look, yet another market manipulation tactics, similar to the tariff wars when his buddies in Congress like Majorie Taylor Green made a killing by shorting the market.

I think people don't understand the process. The 2025 award if for deeds dedicated to peace in 2024 (and before ) - nominations close in January every year then the committee spend several months considering each nomination before concluding and making their award. Therefore by dint of a 124 year old process there was no way on God's green earth he was going to win something on Friday for a deed he did on Thursday.

He could be in the running for next year under some caveats. First the peace process has to actually last ( I remind everyone that at the time of writing no prisoner exchange has happened and Israel is still dropping munitions on Gaza) then its look at his track record which may well count against him - ICE agents causing mayhem, bombing boats in international waters with zero investigations and due process to prove they are drug smuggling and of course J6. He could pass away before any announcement but before and decision in which case he is out of the running however if he is announced as the winner then dies before inauguration then they are the only circumstances he could win it posthumously.
Get with the correct terminology. It's not a prisoner exchange. It's Israeli hostages cruelly detained (1) and Palestinians merely under administrative detention (2). https://www.btselem.org/administrative_detention

(1) true
(2) false description of crimes against humanity

Well, I guess that myopic response cooks his goose for next year!

Love how they sneak in a nice little biblical reference, too, as if to gild the lily! The Christian Nationalists will be as happy as the Jews to read that…unless they realize he thinks he’s the Messiah, even though he’s just a naughty boy!

Additionally, let’s step back for a moment and take in the fact that the POTUS has felt the need to speak out against the Nobel Committee, and belittle a universally admired prize, because he didn’t win it, even though he wasn’t even President when they started the process and has not done a damned thing to strive to bring the kind of peace the Committee both admires and rewards!

Trump wins the Munchausen By Proxy Award, though, hands down!
Misquoted biblical reference. It's faith that moves mountains, not "The Triumph of the Will".

Must make Americans so proud. Military using food banks whilst National Guard being deployed to do their jobs - the Guard will be deployed for one day less than is required to pay them because then they will be recalled.
