PNEs Hospitality is still being used as Courts and they probably need the time to convert them back to what they were

Remember playing Preston in a friendly in 1998. It was some sort of tournament Deepdale split into four sections as another game on straight after ours. Think one of other teams was Huddersfield but headed off as soon as our game finished . Massive City following considering we had hit the lowest point in our history . First time
saw the hideous citrus and navy striped kit we wore at Wembley the following year. Sure we won that day but can't remember the score. Does anyone know the score and who the other two teams were. May have been Huddersfield and Barnsley buy not sure may even have got the year wrong.
Was at that but had forgot, Im thinking Oldham but probably not right.

The other team was Tranmere. From memory we beat Preston 3-2 and lost 2-1 to Tranmere in the final. It was the Bill Shankly Shield to commemorate the official opening of the Bill Shankly Stand. I seem to recall Richard Edghill scoring one against Preston

Just checked and we drew 2-2 then lost on pens to Tranmere. Totally forgot about that

Really good atmosphere in the away section at the league cup game at Deepdale a couple years back. Couldn't see a match at the Academy stadium quite matching that.
Used to like the pre season games against decent European opposition at COMS (as it was) before we started playing proper European games every season.
Remember seeing a pretty strong (well, strong at the time anyway) City team win 5:1 at Crewe in the 80s.
About 15ish years back saw what was basically an academy team with a couple of 'fringe first teamers' lose at Morecambe. The locals ,a sizeable proportion of who were (and still are in truth) armchair Utd/Liverpool fans seemed to really enjoy the result...image how they'd react now!!

Think we played Chester the day after Crewe
