Print at home tickets (Now live - P7)

I'm surprised that there's any hostility to this really.

I think it's a progressive move by the club that will helpfully eradicate a lot of problems encountered by those without season cards or City cards.

It was a farce against Juventus, so the club need to do something and this, coupled with the smartphone option, seems to be the best option.

To some of the older generation Ric it is the thin end of the wedge, I am fine, my posting about the cost of printing and printers breaking down was rather tongue in cheek, BUT there are still a lot of our fans who either don't have computers nor smartphones and don't want to get them. It is fine people saying it only costs 0.5p etc but we are not just catering for the young and upwardly mobile, we are also catering for the older fans here.

I appreciate that there was a problem at the Juventus game, I had a paper ticket myself and for the WHU I had two paper tickets, luckily the first one worked so I didn't hold anyone up, but we don't need to throw the baby out with the bath water. The club appear to have had problems with the print firm for the season tickets, I haven't received my replacement one yet so it is not their fault, apart from the fact that I hope they replace that firm next season, we have to remember that there are 50,000 fans going through the turnstiles. :-) Just my humble opinion.

p.s. edit:
and I realise that the season card tickets would not have to be printed for every match HOWEVER some older fans don't have a season card either because they can't afford it or because they know that they will not make every match in the season and therefore pick and choose so they would be printing out tickets for a lot of matches. I didn't make Sunderland on Tuesday because I am picking and choosing due to my health and I know others who feel the same about home matches.

I appreciate that Sheila, but I'm fairly sure the option to print tickets at home (or have them sent your smartphone) are optional.

Older fans, such as yourself, who may not feel comfortable with that can still get their tickets via the conventional methods (i.e. at the ticket office or in the post).

That's why I can't really see a downside to what they are proposing.

I'm quite comfortable with it Ric, I went round the World finding places to print out my plane ticket to the next destination 10 years ago and am still doing it when I go on Spike's trips, I just feel for the others who are not comfortable about it and don't have a voice on here. You know me Ric, up for anything as long as the Doc lets me go!! :-)

Just being devil's advocate. :-)

Unlike some of the airlines this will be an ADDITIONAL service to the existing ones, EB. It can't harm anyone and can only do good. There are some games where people collecting pre bought tickets on the day are missing half an hour or more of the game.

It won't affect you or any of the other Coffin Dodgers in any way ;-)

What actually happened at the juventus game?
Lots of people decided to go too late for their tickets to be posted and seemed amazed the ticket office couldn't cope with the distribution during 45 minutes before kick-off.
That's the same ticket office which hasn't been able to cope with much smaller walk-up gates at cup ties (both domestic and European) since we moved 12 years ago. Perhaps they've never bothered with cup games in the past.

*lol* @ DD & the God that is Ric. (Sorry DD there's only one hero, Ric)

I know, progress happens, I have a certificate here at home designed by one of my best (male) friends: When we first started using computers in schools, the old BBC write your own program practically, I said I would never, ever use one, I hated them. My best friend who was the big computer 'expert' moved to Cardiff and they gave me a year's secondment a while later, to do a DASE in Educational Computing and then I became an Advisory Teacher for EC!! I loved it, so my BF sent me the certificate and it reads; "This is to certify that Eccles Blue* has apparently overcome her ignorant prejudice against the use of Computers in Education." It's dated August 1990. In extremely small print at the bottom it states: "Prospective employers should note that although relapses from this state of competence are relatively infrequent, the awarding body can accept no responsibility in the event of their occurrence."! :-) It has re-occurred obviously!!

*it does have my real name there.

When we moved there it was access card only for home fans, the international games in 2004 were plastic cards and the away fans got plastic cards to use once.

Well in level 3 CB there has always been paper tickets we sit near the front and we get loads of trippers coming down with paper tickets for double digit letter rows thinking they are in the right place only to find they have to climb to the top and this has been from day 1

I think heads should roll. the ticket office has been shambles for years now.

the club can implement this if you want but personally I don't want to use this.
I want to use my card, or the issued paper tickets we have these days (i always save all the paper tickets (esp.for aways) for sentimental reasons and you can't do that with selfprinted tkts)

As others have said it is an option. not mandatory.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I was dubious at first when we put buying cup final tickets online rather than selling them at the ticket office but it worked fine and ended the hours of queuing (7 hours for me for the Stoke game). It's progress and it's optional. Whats not to like?
