Prisoner escape

Reminds me of famous old lag Frankie Fraser (self confessed murderer and enforcer for the Krays). A career criminal he recalled being banged up in wartime. Apparently prison security was so lax then (hacksaws smuggled in cakes, key impressions from soap etc) that escapes were quite common. The police then had better things to do rather than clearing up the Prison services failings and would quite often give advance warnings of intended searches at the guy's family homes.
If a fugitive was apprehended he would certainly be recalled and an additional time added onto his sentence. However, if the crim managed to stay away for the length remaining, the authorities sort of called it a draw and no further action was taken. One old lag, accompanied by his solicitor, turned up one day after his original sentence expired and demanded his suit back and also payment for mail bag sewing (for the war effort). They had to give it to him.
 
On the basis that he (obviously) didn’t get out of the country, just pondering what I’d have done. You’d have to take risks, obviously, but getting out of London would have to be a priority. Or going to ground and waiting it out. Walking around London would not be on the cards.

Problem is, if you’ve not got a plan, or resources, or help, then you’re fucked basically.

This must therefore have been a spur of the moment thing.
