Priti Vacant has a plan, a deal with migrants plan.

The simplistic answer then is because Capitalism.

Not entirely. If you perceive capitalism as trade - the making and selling of goods or services at a profit, then borders are a hindrance to that endeavour.

The reason why the EU is keen on removing borders is to allow trade in goods and services (people) to flow freely within Europe.

It is an interesting question. I suppose one answer could be to do with taxes. If we had no borders to whom would we pay taxes and where would we go for Health Care etc. I suppose tax would be less because with no borders there would be no need for expenditure on military forces.
Oh so it's an 'interesting question' now is it?

A big problem now is that a small state like the UK cannot (on its own) stand up to international capitalism. Only larger units like the EU and USA have any hope of doing that.

Of course, there are those who don't consider this a problem because they don't care about it.

Rupert Murdoch wanted us out of the EU precisely because he could influence Downing Street but not the EU.
