I imagine international law / geneva convention have something to say re the definition and rights of an asylum seeker. It's all bollocks, as is the idea that we have enough prison space.

There are two UN Conventions that would come into play

1) the Laws of the Sea... the requirement to rescue anyone in distress on the high seas

2) Refugee Convention ... the requirement to give asylum seekers 'safe passage'

Tories would break both of them

The UK takes in around 35,000 refugees per year.

Germany takes in around a million a year.

France takes in around 350k a year.

Turkey has around 3 million refugees currently.

Around 80% of refugees stay in the country they first enter.

All this hyperventilating over the paltry numbers that come to the UK or indeed try and make it across the Channel is deranged.

More like 80-100k a year for Germany and 50k for France. Those numbers are approximately the total number of refugees in both those countries.

Good job I checked, I was about to put everything I owned on shorting Germany as they would be bankrupt in a couple of years with a 1m refugees a year arriving
