The general rule is that asylum seekers/people in immigration detention centres awaiting removal are not allowed to work.

However there is scope for work to be done with the permission of the home office.

More like 80-100k a year for Germany and 50k for France. Those numbers are approximately the total number of refugees in both those countries.

Germany has around 1.8m refugees living there. UK has around 125k. Turkey has the most currently.

There are two UN Conventions that would come into play

1) the Laws of the Sea... the requirement to rescue anyone in distress on the high seas

2) Refugee Convention ... the requirement to give asylum seekers 'safe passage'

The UK takes in around 35,000 refugees per year.

Germany takes in around a million a year.

France takes in around 350k a year.

Turkey has around 3 million refugees currently.

Around 80% of refugees stay in the country they first enter.

All this hyperventilating over the paltry numbers that come to the UK or indeed try and make it across the Channel is deranged.

I have asked for a couple of contributions from posters so the 'thread being taken over by lefties' seems a little unfair. I asked one poster who he was referring to and what he thought they received and I have had no response.

It seems to me that the British media have whipped people into a frenzy, making people believe that migrants are desperate to get here, en-masse, and are not being taken by any other countries because here they will live in five-star hotels and will be able to claim the world. If you are struggling, and many are, it is easy, therefore, to think that this is not fair and you'd be right if it was true. There will always be people who take advantage of any system but it is about what we stand for as a nation and these are, for me, the most questionable of times when that is asked.

My point, and it has been made by others, is that this is being used to deflect attention away from the fact that we have collapsing services, cut to the bone, because we have created a society where swathes are able to avoid or evade tax while others, because employers pay poorly for a large number of roles, are not subject to it, or even have their pay topped up by the government. That is unsustainable.
