Yeah, this is what I'm worried about. Not leccy bills, or the prospect of a 85p loaf of bred costing three quid next year.
People hate it, it has to be managed. But do us all a favour and keep it in perspective. It will never go away tho. Ever.
And it is not the source of our woes.
There's almost no good news possible. Travelling long distances becomes easier over time - fact of life. There are more and more vehicles making journies that will get you to a neighbouring country. And every year, more and more cargo is shipped over the border.
Syria, right on the border with the EU, is ruined by war, and the population is deliberately kept in a state of torture to keep them taking that chance to get into to the EU. And from there, they can go anywhere, and some will choose England. What else do you expect? We said, no no no, not this time. No more wars. You won't catch us that easily.
Russia smiled, came up with a plan to use bombs and other deliberately scary and excessively violent warfare to progressively funnel the population to the Turkish Border. Turkey is full of boats and ships going to and from the EU.
They start upping the tales about these flows of people containing terrorists coming into the UK and elsewhere, and people buy it. Merkel misjudges the mood and takes in too many.
EU and UK is distracted by Brexit, Russia takes the Crimea. EU, UK, the west is then distracted by Corona, so nothing is done to prevent Russia's moves towards the next target, the Donbas.
I mean.... What the hell is your version of recent history? It's a problem, but it gets excessively into people's brains. It's a perfect distraction from the real jobs of maintaining a democratic order and safeguarding our futures.
What's changed? Why are we always on about it. Simple. The Daily Mail could run a couple of pages a day, most days. People these days use social media and internet to pump these sorts of stories into their brains non stop.
It is an obsession.
Take a step back. Did you ever think you would see inflation above ten percent and rising? Did you ever think you'd see ongoing war on the European continent?
How does that come to pass? Because we've allowed ourselves to be distracted by obsessions that will never ever be sorted in any satisfactory way.
